Once we’ve finished, all you have to do is move in.
The word ‘orangerie’ dates from the 17th century when special rooms were built onto grand houses for growing fruit such as oranges. Today an orangerie is a more enclosed style of conservatory with a partial solid ceiling, while still retaining a glazed roof.
The epitome of modern living, an orangerie allows you to effortlessly incorporate contemporary design features such as speakers and down-lighters.
The Lorimer range has been developed to be uncompromising in every aspect of its performance, while maintaining a unique and attractive appearance. It is the market leader in terms of design, functionality, security and thermal performance.
The windows and doors fitted in our orangeries are from our Lorimer range and have been designed to replicate the appearance of timber products, with slim frames and a contoured shape. All transoms and mullions are mechanically jointed for a more attractive finish.
Filled with Argon gas, our units are fitted with two panes of toughened glass, one of which is low emissivity.
Both panes are held together with a warm edge spacer bar for increased thermal performance.
Lorimer glazing gaskets are co-extruded to the frame, which is a permanent bond. This means that they will not shrink or move and will remain perfectly in place around the edge of the glass to add to the slim-line finish.
Energy efficient & ‘A’ rated as standard
All Lorimer orangeries exceed recommended Scottish Building Regulations and are fitted with ‘A’ energyrated windows and doors.
Our orangerie windows are most often ‘casement’ style. The window is designed to offer optimum weather performance to suit the Scottish climate and also to provide the classic slim-line appearance of Lorimer.
To ensure they are also extremely secure, every casement window is fitted with Glass Bond™ technology to seal the glass unit into the PVCu frame, which has British Board of Agrément accreditation. They also have a multi-point espagnolette lock with
two mushroom heads and two flat-knife shootbolts. Finally, arrow headed ‘security’ hinges are fitted to the opposite side of the main locking points along with anti-jemmy cleats. These provide extra security support for the hinging mechanism.
Lorimer orangerie windows are fully reinforced with aluminium and steel to provide strong structural strength. All the fittings for our hinges, locks and handles are fixed into the steel or aluminium reinforcement.
Our unique multi-chamber profile design adds even more strength to the Lorimer frame as well as providing better thermal performance.
Lead free & virgin PVCu
Lorimer PVCu is lead free, using organic stabilisers and is also 100% virgin PVCu which guarantees our white windows will stay white.
All our orangeries are constructed using our unique ground wall timber system providing a stronger fixing point.
Our builders will excavate the site and lay a base in accordance with Scottish Building Regulations, matching the foundations of your home. Our base walls are fully insulated and traditionally built with two skins of brick and an insulated cavity. They will include a damp proof course and damp proof membrane, both designed to prevent moisture ingress. Externally, CR Smith will source brick, stone or render to match your home as closely as possible.
Next, your Lorimer windows and doors are installed and your new fully insulated floor is laid.
A Lorimer orangerie roof is an extruded aluminium clad design with PVCu on the inside to match the windows. Its engineered construction means the roof is fully built and tested prior to installation which carries British Board of Agrément accreditation. The aluminium design means it will remain colour-fast and gives it additional rigidity and strength, unlike PVCu roofs.
Each roof has a unique wind and snow loading specification, computer calculated prior to manufacture.
Steps and drainage are then finally added. When complete, your new orangerie will look like an integral part of your home.
Imagine being able to heat or cool the air - all at the touch of a button. With our climate control system, you can.
Lorimer orangeries are designed with opening windows all the way round and doors to allow a free flow of air on the hottest days. Combined with our climate control system, we believe it is the best way to regulate the temperature in your orangerie.
Whether you want to feel cosy on a winter’s night or read a book under summer skies, you can get the most out of your new living space.
The system is ‘A+++’ energy rated which means that it’s cheaper to run than an electric heater or radiator.
Additionally, the system can de-ionise and purify the air, and it comes in a choice of colours to suit your interior decoration, including white, black and silver.

Thermostat Controlled
Every Lorimer orangerie is fitted with a Smartglass roof. This modern alternative to clear glass can not only keep itself cleaner for longer, it is far quieter than polycarbonate glazing sheets, reflects unwanted heat and glare from the sun in summer, but also helps retain warmth during the winter months.
Using a low emissivity coating, argon gas filled cavity and warm edge technology, a typical conservatory roof glazed with Smartglass ® is able to retain warmth in the winter months twice as well as standard glazing.
The solar control coating and subtle tint in Smartglass® reflects up to 60%* of the sun’s radiant heat during the summer months, dramatically reducing the unwanted build-up of heat that occurs with other glass and polycarbonate roofs.
Smartglass* ® does much more to regulate the temperature in a conservatory than standard glass. It is designed to dramatically reduce the glare of the sun, reflecting nearly 60%* of visible light and filtering out harmful UV rays. The result is a light and airy room, which can be further enhanced in tone by one of the four Smartglass® subtle tints.
Smartglass* ® provides low-maintenance technology with its ground-breaking properties. It has a dual action ‘photo-catalytic’ coating on the outer face, which harnesses the ultraviolet energy in daylight to break down organic matter and then allows it to stay cleaner for longer.
Made from two panes of 4mm toughened glass, the rigid unit construction offers twice the soundproofing of standard roof polycarbonate.
With Lorimer you are furnishing the room as well as the window. Personalise each window to suit the room’s décor, or choose something completely different to give you inspiration for a whole new look.
Timber finishes
Each Lorimer orangerie is fitted with engineered timber sills with solid bullnose edges and skirtings in your choice of natural ash, American cherry or royal oak. As standard they’re hand finished in varnish or wax. Alternatively, we can offer an engineered wood, finished in brilliant white if this would suit your home better.
In addition to our white finish, Lorimer orangeries can also be foiled in rosewood, anthracite grey and American light oak woodgrains. The window or door frames can have a matching woodgrain finish on the inside* or, if you want to make the most of the light
in your room, you can choose white instead. The contoured shape of our Lorimer window, combined with the woodgrain Renolit foil, give it colour and texture, and also means that our woodgrain finishes look and feel like real wood.
*Anthracite grey only available with white internal colour
Our range of handles complements the window perfectly in terms of colour and form, with a choice of black, bright chrome, white, graphite and bright gold.
The choice is yours. With CR Smith, you can choose from a wide range of tiled and timber floors for your new living space.
Our engineered timber floors add a touch of luxury to any space. Made from 18mm-thick cross-ply timber with a beautiful solid hardwood skin, our engineered floors can have a hand distressed, lacquered or oiled finish to suit your room.
Porcelanosa tiles
We have partnered with leading tile manufacturer Porcelanosa to offer a stunning range of luxury tiles for your living space floor. We offer a range of styles, colours and finishes, so you can get the right look for your home.
You can now listen to your favourite music with our new integrated audio system.
Our square, flush speakers are the epitome of contemporary living and the Sonos CONNECT:AMP means you can stream music instantly from your phone or tablet.
We can fit four discreet speakers in the corners of your new orangerie. These are linked to a state of the art CONNECT:AMP which allows you to play your music wirelessly using your existing wifi. Your CONNECT:AMP can be
positioned on your new window sill, mounted on the wall or simply placed on a table or storage unit if you prefer. With Sonos you can connect to online streaming services such as Spotify or Apple Music, as well as listen to the radio or connect to your existing music library. If you have other Sonos speakers in your home, you can link them to your new CONNECT:AMP and they’ll all work together seamlessly.
