Living in a senior community, I’ve learned that caregivers are like angels—if angels had bad knees, never-ending patience, and an unholy love of Bingo. They swoop in when you least expect it, often to remind you that, no, you can’t eat ice cream for every meal (who made that rule?).
But in all seriousness, they’re the unsung heroes of our little world here. Without them, half of us would still be trying to figure out how to work the TV remote, and the other half would be wandering the halls looking for our glasses, which—let’s face it—are on top of our heads. Somehow, they know exactly what we need, often before we do. Whether it’s helping with meds or listening to the same story for the tenth time, they manage it with a smile and the patience of a saint—or maybe someone who’s had a lot of coffee.
They’re also the masters of tough love, showing up just in time to catch me from toppling over when I insist on walking by myself. With a steady arm and a knowing look, they give just enough of an “I told you so” to keep me in check.
So, here’s to the caregivers. They don’t wear capes, but they do carry more Kleenex than any superhero I’ve ever seen. And if that’s not a blessing, I don’t know what is. Plus, they’ve never once laughed at my slippers—well, not out loud, anyway.

Christmas in Zambia!
Zambia has long been a beautiful place for tourists to visit, with natural sights and wonders pervading the country. Maranatha Volunteer’s family project is in Zambia during the Christmas and New Year holiday. It is a way for you to help lay block walls for new classrooms and make memories with your family that last a lifetime. The Adventist Church community in south Zambia asked Maranatha for help with the Sala Adventist School located 30 miles outside of Lusaka. Maranatha has committed to constructing classroom buildings, staff housing and a church. You now can be part of that mission too. Find out how by scanning this code.
A Number 10
Bill and Dan were sitting on a park bench taking in the fall colors.
Bill exclaimed, “Ah, October! Almost time for Halloween. This season reminds me of how I met my wife.”
Dan replied, “I don’t know that story.”
Bill continued, “I went to a costume party and saw her across the room. Standing there tall and gorgeous next to her friend. They’d come to the party together dressed as the number ten. That’s when I knew, she was the one.”
