Doo’ing Good Deeds

Salons. We have two of them here at Crossroads, and they are a favorite place in our community for many of our residents. The two independent stylists who come and beautify us are Deava and Becca. They not only enhance our beauty but they lift our spirits and brighten our days. It’s with our stylists where we often find kindness, care and human connection.

When health starts failing, visiting our salons is one of the first things to go by the wayside. Fortunately, there are people in our orbit who possess that skill set and are willing and able to help. Before she became our Marketing and Community relations director, Sarah Dubs had her own styling business in Delta. Working at Crossroads the past two years, she has observed this dilemma—when health declines—and she has quietly volunteered to help our residents get the hair care they need.

There are few things that compare to a fresh haircut from a kindhearted stylist when you’re basically bed bound. It brings connection. We feel seen, valued and cared for.

Recently, Sarah learned that Hope West is seeking qualified individuals to help them with their hospice patients. Soon she’ll be volunteering her time during lunch hours, evenings and weekends to help those on hospice within and beyond our community. Thanks, Sarah, for going out of your way to help others.

Update from Maranatha

In response to Cuba’s current economic crisis, Maranatha Volunteers International had temporarily deviated from its construction emphasis and instead focused on shipping basic necessities, like food and medicine, to the Adventist Church there. These efforts are more vital than ever, in light of Hurricane Rafael, power outages, and a 6.8 magnitude earthquake that have worsened the nation’s outlook exponentially. After being repeatedly postponed by logistical hindrances, however, crews finally began construction of the Nuevitas Church. “We’re excited to see the Nuevitas project underway,” said Maranatha’s chief operating offi Kenneth Weiss. “It represents the passion of donors and the hard work of team members who had to navigate the setbacks caused by Cuba’s unfortunate economic situation.” To learn more about Maranatha, scan this code, go to www
