The New York Times published an article (Oct 28, 2024) titled “When Dementia Changes a Loved One’s Personality.” (see QR code above) This article clarifies mood changes that come with dementia. “It’s all brain related,” said Dr. Nathaniel Chin, a geriatrician and associate professor in the department of medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He added, “They’re no one’s fault, and recognizing this can help you feel less upset at people with dementia.” The article confirms some very important elements in the care your loved one receives here at Crossroads.
One practice you may have noticed with our caregivers is what the article calls “emphasizing tone over truth.” Essentially, not getting “too hung up on the facts.” People with dementia may not understand what you are communicating, but they do comprehend tone and body language. Our caregivers practice speaking calmly and in a relaxed posture. This reduces stress and mood swings.
The second practice is reducing boredom. At Crossroads you will see the residents engaged in activities throughout the day. Exercise. Noodle Ball. Singing. Making crafts. It is all a strategic part of an effort to reduce boredom and in turn reduce stress and mood swings.
Thank you again for entrusting the care of your loved ones to our Crossroads at Lakewood team. We do our very best to create peace of mind living every day
Maranatha Volunteers build hundreds of churches annually. And many are blocked up by the same volunteers. But some localities prefer to finish the churches themselves. This is the case in Peru where, since 2023, 33 congregations have begun adding walls with the local materials that are affordable and available nearby. “It’s exciting to see Peruvian congregations finishing the work that Maranatha began,” said Maranatha’s Vice President of Projects Kyle Fiess. “The foundation, frame, and roof we build provide a solid start for members to then complete strong buildings that stand out in their communities and that they can be proud of.” Learn more about Maranatha by scanning this code. of we g n be
