Intersections at Crossroads

Many years ago, in a hospital in Denver, Colorado, two mothers in the same ward each gave birth to a baby girl. The babies were Mary (Dee) and Marylen. They were born in April, just 2 days apart. The Mothers became quick friends and got together with their families whenever possible.

As kids and teenagers, Dee and Marylen developed their own friendship. In time each married and had children of their own. Though they saw each other occasionally, with families to attend to, they eventually lost touch with each other.

A little over a year ago Marylen and her husband, Paul, became residents at Crossroads Northglenn. A few weeks later Dee’s kids were touring communities looking for a place where the newly widowed Dee could find some extra care and call her home. While visiting Crossroads they learned that Marylen was a resident. Encouraged that Dee would have a friend, her children moved her into the Crossroads community.

The women were thrilled to be living at Crossroads together and a lifetime friendship was re-established. Both are very active in the community. Marylen is teaching a weekly sign language class. Dee has teamed up with Marylen and Paul to help organize the library.

Like a good book, life sometimes surprises us by resolving our stories in a way we could never imagine. For Dee and Marylen, Crossroads is for them, exactly what the name implies. An intersection where two friends meet again and enjoy their next chapter together.

Project Patch - North of Boise, Idaho, on the Payette river in the Boise National Forest, there is a Maranatha project called Project Patch. Project Patch is a residential center for at-risk youth, passionately committed to restoring hope to teens, building thriving families, and empowering supportive communities by operating several youth programs.

Maranatha and Project Patch have a long relationship, which began in the early 1990s. The campus is now 30 years old and has a few needs. Starting May 22, Volunteers will help with flooring renovations in the girls’ dorm, exterior painting on staff rentals, and repairs in the shop.

Project Patch is one of Marantha’s many efforts based in North America where we work with organizations in the U.S. and Canada to provide volunteer labor for various construction or renovation projects. To learn more, scan this code, go to www .maranatha.org or Maranatha channel.
