We want to welcome our new residents to Crossroads at Lakewood. You have already learned that living here means enjoying full days with lots of interesting and challenging activities. Angie, our Activities Director and Laurie, her Assistant, are awesome leaders and are helping us get stretched and exercised regularly. Be gentle with them though. Angie broke her left arm in a fall recently and Laurie had surgery on her right arm. Sorry ladies!
We are also enjoying some fresh leadership in our kitchen. Jasen, our new Dietary Director and Anthony, our new chef, have joined Kip in the everyday challenge of putting three squares in front of our residents. We can’t express enough how much we appreciate you, gentlemen!
And you can’t spend a few moments at Crossroads without intersecting with G.R. G.R. is our Maintenance Director. You probably don’t even notice when things are broken or need mending, because G.R. is on it – and always with a smile or his own version of an “inquisitive mused look” on his face which says, “I’m going to figure this out!”
And finally, we are excited about the new look coming to our van and our new banners flying out front. Keep an eye out for some welcome change in March.
Update from Maranatha
Imagine being a high school student in Greenville, Tennessee and learning that you have an opportunity to go to a remote area in Kenya to help renovate a primary school for children there. The Maranatha Volunteer International project gave 45 young people that opening and in January the Kimogoro Adventist Boarding Primary school welcomed them with open arms.
The Greenville kids laid block on a new bathroom building which added to the boys and girls dormitories, kitchen and dining hall already underway. The volunteers often go to be a blessing to others, but nearly always receive one in return. One student, Rylie Tomlinson, learned to find peace in Christ during diffi times. “[God] was showing me that He is all I need to fi contentment. I do not need to dwell on my problem; I need to dwell on my Problem Solver. And that is exactly what we went to [Kenya] to share.” To learn more, scan this code, go to www .maranatha.org or Maranatha channel.
An elderly man in the Everglades had owned a large property for several years. He had a dam in one of the lower paddocks where he had planted mango and avocado trees. The dam had been fixed up for swimming when it was built, and he also had some picnic tables placed there in the shade of the fruit trees.
One evening the old farmer decided to take a 10-gallon bucket and go down to the dam and bring back some fruit. As he neared the dam, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his dam.
He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end. One of the women shouted to him, “We’re not coming out until you leave!” The old man frowned, “I didn’t come down here to watch you ladies swim naked.” Holding the bucket up he said, “I’m here to feed the crocodile.”
Moral: Old men may walk slow, but they can still think fast.
