Our Crossroads Lakewood community recently had the most unexpected couple visit them. We know that the tranquil atmosphere at all our Crossroad’s communities is a draw. But we had no idea it would bring two geese to Crossroads at Lakewood. The two decided that the East courtyard would be a nice place to move in. And move in they did. Lakewood residents were excited to have the geese visiting and so our care team quickly went to work making the geese’s temporary home safe and comfortable.
And imagine how surprised they were when Mrs. Goose decided to birth a troop of goslings. This was no nursery rhyme or fairy tale. This was the real deal! They had our own “Mother Goose!” Soon they were awash with cute, yellow, feathered newborns. See another photo on page 2.
Geese apparently know when it is impolite to “wear out their welcome.” So, they thoughtfully hinted it was time to move on. Momma and Papa couldn’t exactly fly away with their brood, so the doors were opened from the courtyard and the feathered guests were allowed to waddle their way down the hallway to the exit with the “kids” following along. Carl Sandburg once wrote: “Nearly all the best things that came to me in life have been unexpected.” Let’s keep our eyes open here at Delta for the next, best unexpected event.
Sonoran’s Serve Kimogoron’s - More than 40 young people from Sonora, California, volunteered to travel 9000 miles and help build a girl’s dormitory. The Maranatha Volunteers International project is for the children of Kimogoro, a small village deep in the heart of Kenya.
They called themselves the Sonora Youth Mission Team. They spent six days learning and building a girls dormitory that will house up to 96 primary school students, and a bathroom facility adjacent to the dormitory.
The primary lesson the adult leaders of the mission tried to convey to the student travelers who went from the Mother Lode to Kenya was service. “We left Sonora on a mission of service and love for God’s people in Kenya,” Tyson Kahler, their youth pastor said. “Taking students out of their comfort zones and into another culture has an incredible impact on their lives. Their worldviews expand exponentially.” To learn more, scan this code, go to www.maranatha.org or visit the Maranatha channel.
Father’s and Such
Father to teenage son: “No, you can’t use the car—but please feel free to use the lawnmower.”
- Vern McLellan
Mark Twain said, “When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant, I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to the 21, I was astonished at how much the old man learned in 7 years.”
Fatherhood is ... getting to go anywhere you want for Father’s Day, getting to drive there, and even getting to pay the bill!
