Crossroads Leader Volunteers in Kenya
If you read the newsletter regularly, you know about Maranatha Volunteers International, the non-profit that created Crossroads Senior Living. In July, Cory Strauch, Lakewood’s Executive Director, along with his friend Mandy Rolfe, joined a team of volunteers to help bring Maranatha’s Kajiado School project nearer to its completion. The team of 36 plus volunteers laid block, painted, and added their helping hands to whatever needed doing. Kajiado was created to help young Masai girls escape the traditional culture of childhood marriage and genital mutilation and serves both girls and boys from the community. Cory says he and Mandy learned to be thankful and learned that helping others filled their hearts with joy. They were very impressed with the sacrifice that so many have made to make Maranatha a company that really helps people where they are.
After telling jokes and singing songs at patients’ bedsides, he said farewell and, “I hope you get better.” One elderly gentleman replied, “I hope you get better, too.”
