A Time of Hope

We’ve had a rough couple of months recently with some of the friends we’ve come to know and love passing on. That’s one very good reason to appreciate the season we are in.

Spring brings with it Easter, the most hopeful of the Christian holidays. A time of assurance for believers that God is a God of resurrection, new life, and rebirth.

It is true of many religions at this time of year. All of us witness the earth full of rebirth and new life springing forth from that which had seemed dead and gone. We hope together for a resurrection of our loved ones.

And, in the meantime, we can enjoy each other for every smile, friendly touch, and kind word we share. May your Springtime be full of hope.

Zambia. It sounds so distant. And it is. But it isn’t too far for Maranatha Volunteers International to make a resounding difference in the lives of school children in this South-Central African country. Hospital regulations require a wheelchair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman—already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet—who insisted he didn’t need my help to leave the hospital. After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator. On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him. “I don’t know,” he said. “She’s still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown.”
