Our story began in 1977 with our founder, the late Ivan Crossland, Sr., lovingly known as ‘Red Iron’. He started Crossland Construction out of the family garage with a wife and ten kids at home. His optimism, integrity, work ethic, and grit led him to success in every endeavor. His story became the embodiment of The American Dream, but more importantly, it continues to inspire us every day.

Today, we are humbled by our continued growth over the years. Still family-owned and operated, we have expanded to four companies, eleven office locations, over 1,900 dedicated employees, and rank in the top 100 construction firms in the nation. We continue to serve under Ivan Sr.’s belief that if you dream big, remain humble, and work hardgreat things are possible.

Red X

Red X has been a landmark in the city of Riverside since 1948. After three floods and a fire, the familyowners decided it was time to build a new store to better serve customers and employees. Crossland worked with BRR Architecture on this project to combine their extensive grocery store experience. There are fun features in this build that include antiques, an old model car, and a vintage feel throughout. They opened their doors in Feburary 2023.

The Loves Travel Stop in Winona has it all with 110 truck parking spaces, 86 car parking spaces, 25 RV spaces, eight diesel bays, eight showers, laundry facilities, and wait for it… a Godfather’s Pizza and a Subway. Oh, there’s also a dog park.

This $9.6 million beauty consists of two separate 12,000 SF facilities on a 26acre development. The project included more than 400,000 SF of paving.

The building exterior features brick and EIFS (exterior insulation and finish system). Inside, the showers and restrooms feature ceramic tile, as does the sales floor.

One of the main challenges was the substantial amount of groundwater, which was well above what was expected based on the soil report. Crossland built a 250-foot double crane road with crane mats to get concrete trucks onto the site. Sitework was remediated and undercut an additional two feet. Six percent cement stabilization was added at 14 inches deep, backfilled with suitable fill, and final subgrade was stabilized eight inches at 6 percent. Geogrid and baserock were also laid.
