Newsletter CROMER ACADEMY

year’s Crab and Lobster Festival. It was a very successful weekend with the Year 9 catering students selling out of the Jams by 3.00pm on Saturday. Saffron Magnus, Bailey Posthumus and Megan Purdy also stepped up, and showed a packed cooking theatre that it’s not just the professional chefs that can create amazing crab and lobster dishes. Well done to all students who took part, and a big thank you to Cromer Farm Shop for supplying all the ingredients for the cookery demonstrations and the jam, and to local councillor Andreas Yiasimi for the support and encouragement.

Our uniform supplier, Anglia Sports and Schoolwear will be at Cromer Academy hosting a uniform event on Wednesday 10th June between 3.30pm –6.30pm . This will be an opportunity for current students and new Year 7 students to come along to try on the uniform prior to purchasing it on the night. All sizes will be available. Payments for the purchases will be made through the company who will be able to process card transactions and cash payments but unfortunately will not be able to receive cheques on the evening. This is an ideal opportunity to purchase uniform for the new school year, altertatively all purchases will need to be made online which will incur a delivery charge and will have a deadline for delivery. We have now discontinued selling the house colour PE tops. All PE tops will now be purchased through Anglia Sports and Schoolwear. Students who currently have the house colour PE tops are permitted to continue wearing these.

Attendance Information We would like to remind all parents of the following: Appointments Students leaving the academy to attend any appointment must show evidence of the appointment as they sign out. We also need to see appointment slips/hospital letters/copy prescriptions to back up medical absence. We can take a copy for you in Reception; it will be kept on your child’s records. Lateness to school/lessons Students who are late must sign in with Mrs Fippard who will now be based at Student Services. A penalty point will be issued for lateness where students do not provide an acceptable reason for the lateness. Students are recorded as being late when they arrive after 8.20am. Depending on how late the student is, the lateness may not be authorised. Parents will be texted if their child is late to school, stating how many minutes late they were. It is not a reasonable excuse, for example, for parents to drop children off after 8.20am. The school day starts at 8.10am & we expect all staff & students to be in school by this time. Illness Absences from school due to illness need to be reported via the school’s absence line before 9am (01263 511433, option 2). If the absence is not reported, it will be recorded as unauthorised until we have contacted you to discuss it. Absences should be reported daily unless we have been notified that there is a particular reason, such as an ongoing medical condition.

Radio 1 Big weekend Academy - By Josh Hinds A few months ago I was scrolling through my Facebook and I come across an ink from the BBC which described a volunteering opportunity for 15+ years old. I read more into it found out how amazing the schemed look so I instantly enquired about it. A few days later I received an email confirming my placement within the scheme. I was very optimistic as I had no knowledge of the scheme or what was going to be happening when I began my volunteering. Soon enough it was time to start my volunteering and I walked into the briefing with an open mind and a willing to be involved in what was to come. Day 1 -I spent some time with the YouTuber’s Jack and Dean and learned about their backgrounds and how they became affiliated with the BBC. I also learned how to DJ with Radio 1s DJ Danny Howard. I was amazed by the opportunities that opened up through the scheme. Day2 -I started the day working with Jack and Dean once again but leaving them in the afternoon for a meeting with the band Lower than Atlantis who performed a live lounge earlier that day. I tried to play guitar but soon learned that I should stick to singing! The last thing I did this day was to work with intensity a local (went to school at Walsham) beatboxer who is now a nationwide sensation. Day 3 -I met with the Radio 1s Greg James and worked back stage on a live broadcast from Norwich to the whole country. In the afternoon I did some work with some game designers and programmers these included representatives from Rockstar, Mojang and Runescape. Day 4 -I finished off the week by watching Ella Eyre’s live lounge then having the privilege to work alongside her in a singing/song writing workshop which was a really good experience being able to sing alongside a star. That evening they opened up the club and had Greg James and Danny Howard both recording live for Radio 1 while Danny Howard was mixing live tracks on the DJ decks. This created an amazing atmosphere and a great ending to a week I never will forget!
