Community Carol Service—

Our Head boy and girlDavid Corbett and Harriette Crowe and Yr 11 Music students, Alice Digby and Eve Dawson represented Cromer Academy at the Community Carol Service on Sunday 7th December. David and Harriette read one of the Christmas story readings and Alice and Eve performed a couple of festive songs to the packed congregation. Mrs Hough and Mrs Bignell also attended the service and were pleased to hear so many people complimenting the students on their confident performances and how smart they looked. Well done David, Harriette, Alice and Eve for representing the Academy so well. Much talk was also about the Academy tree which was part of the Community Christmas Tree Festival held in the church over the last few days. People flocked around the tree to try and find their face on the baubles. All donations will be sent off to MAP ( Mancroft Advice Project) who offer support to vulnerable students. Thank you to everyone who left donations.

Each class could choose two ideas to go into the final. We presented our ideas to the judging panel. The tension was building as we waited for the judges to announce the results. They finally decided and we won! Our team was Ruby Duke (Team Leader), Mary Keen (Research Manager) Chloe Sanders (Finance Manager), Aimee Powel ( Marketing Manager) Emily Harbour ( P r e s e n t e r ) , S o p h i e L e w is (Presenter) Jasmine Phin ( Prototype Manager).

People from the UEA came in and set the year 7’s a task. The task was to create a new idea to improve fishing. We were split into two classes and into groups. My group consisted of 7 people, our idea was called ‘Technobait!’. We decided it would be a reusable bait. The materials were plastic and wood. You would spray with a spray smelling of crab meat and worms to attract the fish and crabs. We had calculated how much it would cost to make, how much we would sell it for and how much profit we would make.

Research shows that opportunities provided for parents to be actively involved in their child's education has the biggest impact. To this end please could you take a few minutes to complete a short online questionnaire that has been emailed out to you. The deadlne for all responses is 31st January 2015. Upon analysis of the results we will publish a summary of our findings and intended actions.

Prom Festive Cake Sale

Karate Workshop– Mrs Leavey

Thursday 18th December

All students in years 7-9 experienced a Karate workshop as part of their PE lessons this half term, which was delivered by Graham Parker from Holt Karate Club. Students learnt key movements in how to block an opponent and utilised the opportunity to ask questions with Graham. Training takes place Tuesdays and Saturdays. Please email holt.karate@hotmail.co.uk for more information.

The Prom Committee met for the first time last week to start the ball rolling with fundraising ideas for next year’s Prom which has been booked for Thursday 2nd July at Northrepps Cottage. ( Yr 11 students will have left school by this date).

Phone calls home–

Due to the increasing number of requests by students to call home for forgotten PE kits, equipment for lessons or homework, we will now be charging 20p. Please ensure your child has the correct equipment with them in the mornings for the school day. We will no longer be calling home to chase these requests unless the student has sufficient funds for these calls. We are hoping this new policy will encourage students to be more responsible and less reliant on staff and parents accommodating their forgetfulness.

Adam Spruce and Tom Foulser competed in the North Norfolk District Championships for Skiing at Trowse Ski Club. Adam won the event, qualifying for the Norfolk Championships in March. Tom, who has only completed one ski season and competed against highly experienced skiers, placed brilliantly in 5th place, missing out on qualification by just hundredths of a second.

The committee will be organising a festive cake sale for Thursday 18th December to be held in the Assembly Hall at break and lunch. The more cakes that are baked the more money they will raise. I am sure the committee will be extremely grateful for all cake donations on the day. Please bring into the office on the morning of Thursday 18th December with names on your cake tins so we can return these afterwards.
