RAG WEEK UPDATE– Ms Burrows During the final week of term, members of the House Leadership team, along with Y10 Product Design students, held a Raising and Giving week to raise money for Norfolk Accident Rescue Service, the Dog’s Trust with a one off donation to Cancer Research UK in addition to food for the Cromer and District Food Bank. They raised an amazing £979.21 which includes the incredible £320.30 raised for Cancer Research by Y10 student Shaun Williamson who ran 70 laps of the school field (the equivalent of a half marathon!) During the week, we held many activities for all to get involved in including the annual Cromer’s Got Talent competition; where brave individuals audition in front of crowds at lunchtime, with the finalists giving a final performance in the whole school celebration assembly. A huge well done to Dylan Wilson (Y8), the stand-up comedian who was crowned the winner, and also to the runners up: Aiden Davies (Y10) and Ruby Duke and Sophie Lewis (Y7) who sang and played instruments. There was also the opportunity to sing karaoke in return for a donation to charity with some spectacular (!) singing happening in the hall during lunchtime. Year 10 product design students assisted with the many cake sales which were held throughout the week as well as selling handmade products such as key rings, a phone engraving service, fedoras and organising a QR code treasure hunt. The Prom Committee organised a sponge the teacher activity- a huge well done to those teachers brave enough to take to the stocks! A big thank you to the PE department for running a keepy-up football competition and cross-bar challenge on the astro. On Friday, there was a non-uniform day and collection for the Cromer and District Foodbank. We collected a breath-taking 555 items which weighed in as 190.9kg (30 stone) of food which will feed many families in the local area, so a heartfelt thanks to all who donated.

The enrichment afternoons have now been running for two weeks. Students have been taking part in a huge range of exciting activities as well as receiving extra support for their academic development. A big thank you to those students who were effected by the initial issues with buses we had in the first week. They have now been resolved and we are running both school minibuses to ensure everyone gets home quickly and safely. As this is the first time that we have done this please do keep us up to date with your thoughts about how the enrichment afternoons are progressing and the range of activities available.

@ cromeracademy

My first week as the Principal of Cromer Academy has been an interesting one. It has been a pleasure getting to know the students and the staff at the school and I am very grateful to everyone for making me so welcome. The Year 11s have been working incredibly hard and it is great to see so many students taking up the benefits of after school revision sessions. The results from mock exams suggest that we are going to see some very pleasing grades this summer.

Press Conference with the new Headteacher 8Enf, had an opportunity this week, to interview the new Headteacher at Cromer Academy, Dr Geoff Baker. We invited Dr Baker into our lesson for a press conference, as part of our news gathering and reporting unit of work. Here’s an example of the news reports the students produced as a result. The following article is by Leah White. “People all over the school are intrigued by Dr Baker’s humorous and kind personality. I, and I’m sure other pupils feel the same way, am reassured by Dr Baker’s belief in the students and refusal to give up on us. His passion for education and determination to make this school great makes him an exciting Head teacher. Students have said ‘The fact that he takes time to try to learn all of our names, shows that he is a kind and caring person, makes us feel special in our own ways.’ He is very friendly and easy to talk to. Dr Baker is very experienced, having taught for 12 years. He has a Masters Degrees in education and History. Despite the fact that he was expelled from school at 14, teachers worked hard and helped him get back on his feet. I personally feel that this helps him understand our feelings as students and adds to his determination. Dr Baker is planning to make a few big changes to the school, starting with getting a new Wifi system and new computers for the school. He is also planning to update the whole reception area to make it look more attractive. He is willing to spend money to make this school better and we are all grateful for it. In conclusion, I think that Dr Baker is going to make this school better than it already is. He takes the time to talk to us, and is experienced.

He can understand how we feel as

students and is willing to spend money to make this school better.”
