Your partnership plays an essential role in helping Cristo Rey graduate students who are college and career prepared.
The Corporate Work Study program (CWSP) supports you and your students in
their experience. Through ongoing communication, CWSP provides a high level of support in all matters involving students in the workplace.
This handbook outlines the expectations for participating in CWSP. Changes or modifications will be communicated to the Partner. Questions or concerns should be reported to your Client Relations Manager or the Director of the Corporate Work Study Program.
Thank you for participating in the Corporate Work Study Program.
Human Resource Policies
CODE OF CONDUCT
All CWSP Partners and employees are expected to treat students with respect, maintain appropriate professional boundaries in their relationships with students, and exercise professional discretion when sharing personal information. Although students are expected to perform their work responsibilities in a manner like other employees', their age should be considered in providing a safe work environment. Partners are thus expected to have appropriate employment policies prohibiting discrimination and harassment. The compliance procedure communicated should be communicated to students. The expected standards of conduct apply to any event or circumstance that brings students and employees together - no matter the location, time, or purpose and whether Cristo Rey Jesuit HS or CWSP had knowledge of the event.
The guidelines and expectations outlined in the handbook are intended to protect Partners and students and to lessen the chances of any misunderstandings or misinterpretations of words or behavior.
As part of their yearly onboarding, and to support their professional development, Partners should review their company handbook with their student. As a best practice, this should be completed by an HR professional. Topics should include but are not limited to Vision, Mission and or Company values, Code of Conduct, Workplace Safety including anti-discrimination and anti-harassment definitions and policies, Emergency Policies and Procedures, Drug & Alcohol Policy, Technology Policy.

DISCRIMINATION POLICY
CRJHS-TC and CWSP do not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, creed, religion, age, disability, marital status, national or ethnic origin, status with regard to public assistance, or any other basis prohibited by law in the student admission process, faculty and staff hiring practices, educational policies, scholarships, athletics or other programs.
WORK PERMITS
Child Labor laws require that organizations employing students under 16 obtain a work permit from the student's school. CRJHS-TC issues these permits and can supply Partners with copies for those students for whom it is required. All CRJHS-TC students are 14 years of age or older.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING
CRJHS-TC students may be subject to submitting background checks, signing confidentiality agreements, and/or fulfilling other pre-employment requirements, as a Partner deems necessary. However, Partners are asked to contact CWSP before asking students to sign any documents or submit to any other pre-employment requests.
DRUG TESTING
CRJHS-TC students are subject to drug testing in workplaces where drug testing is required of each employee. Students at these workplaces may be subject to drug testing either as a pre-employment requirement or random test throughout the year. Cristo Rey Jesuit High School will report the results of drug testing to the Partner.

Student Teams
CWSP determines all Partner assignments for students and reserves the right to move students for job performance related issues, or there is an extenuating circumstance. Students are matched to worksites based on the skills required for each position according to the job description provided by the Partner. Partners receive a list of students assigned to their organization as soon as it is determined by CWSP. Changes will only be made after consultation with the Partner.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the expectations of the workplace. The Partner should communicate any work performance or behavior complications to the student and the Client Relations Manager. At the Partner's request, a student will be removed from a position at any time and efforts will be made to replace the student with a new worker within two weeks.

Attendancance Policies
Students are expected to attend each scheduled workday. Please refer to the workday schedule for a complete summary of scheduled workdays, holidays, and other school breaks.
• Each student is permitted one PTO (Personal Time Off) day per semester without the expectation to make-up the absence (i.e., illness, injury, court, bereavement, etc.)
All other missed time must be made up by scheduling a makeup day during a school break, at the convenience of the CWSP Partner and coordinated with your CRM.
• Workday absences are communicated to Cristo Rey by the student or student’s parent. Your CRM will inform you if your student will be absent, and whether a PTO day will be applied or if the student is expected to complete a makeup day.
• Students/families are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the workplace on make-up days.
• Religious holidays observed by a student not identified or observed on the school calendar will be communicated to the Partner. Partners may be asked to honor the student's missed workday without expecting the student to complete a makeup day for their absence.
Breaks Activities Emergencies
SCHEDULE & BREAKS
Students are expected to perform all work, including professional development that is assigned. Best practices for assigning and evaluating student work performance are included on our school website. All applicable company rules and requirements are to be maintained by the student during work hours, including rest and meal breaks. Students must remain on campus or within the building’s footprint during work hours.
Students ARE NOT allowed to leave their worksite campus without approval from their CRM, supervisor, and at least two adult supervisors present.
SCHOOL & EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
School and extracurricular activities should not interrupt a student's work schedule. If any school or extracurricular activity conflicts with a student's work schedule, the student's first responsibility is to her/his CWSP job. A student may not miss any work to participate in extracurricular activities without a prearranged agreement between CWSP, the Partner, and the student.

SPECIAL EVENTS
Partners are encouraged to include students in workplace events, including volunteer opportunities or events that take place off campus that enrich the student’s learning and develop their professional network.
• Communicate planned offcampus events to your CRM.
• Students must be accompanied by two adults anytime they leave the workplace campus.
• CWSP will assist with coordinating transportation to off campus events.
• Partners may transport the student using their own vehicle only if two adults are present in the vehicle and the trip is approved by the school.

If the student becomes ill or injured immediately contact your CRM who will communicate with the family and report the next steps to the Partner. In the event your CRM is not immediately accessible, please call the general school line and report the illness or incident (612.545.9700).
Parents have signed an agreement to give representatives of CRJHS-TC and CWSP Partners full authority to seek professional medical treatment on behalf of the student if such treatment becomes necessary during work hours or while participating in the Corporate Work Study Program.
CALAMITY
In the event of inclement weather and the cancellation of school, students will not be expected to attend work. The Partner will receive communication from CWSP informing them of the school’s closure.

Dress Code
As students are minors, it is necessary for them to be identifiable as high school students. Therefore, we require students to remain in Cristo Rey dress code when they are at work or school. Please inform your CRM if a special uniform is needed to complete assigned responsibilities or is required in accordance with company policy. In the event it is necessary for the student to have alternative work attire they must remain recognizable as a Cristo Rey student with a lanyard, nametag, etc. Please notify CWSP if a student arrives for work in clothes, accessories, or in a physical condition deemed unprofessional or inappropriate for the workplace.

To maintain compliance with the Department of Labor, students are required to complete a timecard each time they work. It is necessary for CWSP partners to approve each timecard student submits. The law requires the CWSP to maintain accurate and timely records; the timecard serves as the school’s legal record that the student was present, and not truant. Students are not truant and are fulfilling all obligations and requirements of the work study program.
Timecard Compliance Technology Usage
As part of the onboarding process students should be provided with the company’s technology & internet policies. Students are expected to adhere to rules and responsibilities outlined in the policy. Partners may assign the student company technology resources including an email address and security badge, as necessary.

CELL PHONE USAGE
Cristo Rey has implemented a cell phone free policy for students. This means students are not allowed to use their cell phones during the school day. CWSP partners may allow students to use cell phones on their workday (eg, listen to music), but it is at the discretion of each supervisor, and should be permitted only if it does not conflict with the student’s productivity and participation in office activities. Students are not permitted to use their cell phones to make personal calls or use social media during work hours except during supervisor approved breaks.
INTERNET USAGE
In the case that a student needs Internet access for tasks/projects, it is recommended that supervisors discuss company policies and expectations around Internet usage. If a student is non-compliant with this policy, please inform your CRM.
For a business holiday or special meeting day when a student's services are not required or proper supervision is not available, the Partner should notify CWSP in advance. In these cases, students report to school.
Partner Events Student Employment for Pay
Partners may choose to hire students during school breaks and/or holidays because of exceptional quality performance at work during the academic year. Partners may do the following:
• Hire students, remaining employees of CWSP, at an agreed upon hourly rate, in compliance with applicable minimum wage laws and ordinances, plus a $2 per hour administrative and processing fee. Such compensation shall be paid directly to CWSP for each hour worked, with CWSP continuing to handle all payroll matters.
