ENSURING COLLEGE READINESS

Cristo Rey student academic growth is achieved through high-quality instruction and extraordinary school leadership demonstrated across our school communities. These essential elements to learning are fostered through sustained, year-round community building and professional development programs offered for Cristo Rey academic leaders and teachers.

Through lead philanthropic investments from The Howley Foundation and the Hearst Foundations, the Leading and Learning Team collaborates with expert facilitators to deliver job-embedded, new learning that builds the capacity and strengthens the retention of our faculty and staff.

I became aware of my default to want to simplify concepts for the sake of explaining rather than allowing space for amplifying meaning through multiple ways to access concepts. I realized how engaging and fun a math classroom can be utilizing Math Language Routines! Teacher

Accelerating Literacy Across the Curriculum

In partnership with ThinkCERCA, participating schools’ English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies teachers engaged in training to ensure students access grade-level appropriate curriculum that encourages critical and creative thinking across genres. Growth metrics include:

● ThinkCERCA evidence-based writing scores climbed 20%, and multiple-choice scores rose about 4%—indicating an exciting increase in student proficiency levels.

● Network-wide AP ELA pass rates nearly doubled, climbing from 24% to 45%, even as students collectively took 182 more exams. Social Studies saw a 4% pass-rate gain alongside 217 additional exams—a clear sign that engaging Social Studies teachers in our literacy program is driving an impact.

Putting Math Education to Work

Guided by the Silicon Valley Math Initiative (SVMI), students had the opportunity to collaborate in a way that propelled their mathematical learning through increased emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking. Teachers received ongoing professional development to enhance the quality of instruction in the classroom, which increased student perceptions of math by 4% and:

● Network-wide AP math pass rates rose from 19% to 27%, with 265 more math exams completed. AP science pass rates grew from 10% to 22%, with 77 more tests taken.

Principal Fellows Program

Our Principal Fellowship promotes the development of aspiring school leaders within the Network to ensure a robust pipeline of skilled principals for the movement’s future. Generously supported by a lead investment from The Howley Foundation, five Principal Fellows are engaged in two-years of workshops, coaching, and webinars. Principal Fellow Deonté Green was selected as Cristo Rey Miami High School’s principal after just one year in the program. VIDEO SPOTLIGHT: WATCH DEONTÉ’S TESTIMONY OF IMPACT

PREPARING OUR FUTURE WORKFORCE, TODAY

Our national office Corporate Work Study (CWS) team remains nimble and forward-thinking to prepare students to respond to the challenges and meet the opportunities of the modern work environment. Providing support for schools on both national and local levels, the team’s programming helps ensure our students have the credentials and skills necessary to provide real value to our Corporate Partners. Last school year alone, students earned nearly $80 million at their CWS placements. We remain grateful to our corporate and donor communities for their belief in our students’ potential and for their generous investments that catalyze our innovation.

Corporate Work Study Modernization Project

Through the continuation of our Corporate Work Study Modernization efforts, we are crafting a future-focused framework that addresses the realities of a shifting workforce landscape while elevating the training and support offered to our student associates and their job placement supervisors. Through committees and working groups composed of school leaders and key stakeholders, the Cristo Rey Network continues to serve as a national leader in youth workforce development.

Corporate Work Study Impact Awards

The Cristo Rey Network presented the esteemed Corporate Work Study (CWS) National and Local Impact Awards to representatives from Accenture, Baird, Husch Blackwell, and Mount Carmel Health System, acknowledging their companies’ engagement that has positively impacted the lives of Cristo Rey students.

Class

of 2025’s Top Five Career Pursuits

Each year, Cristo Rey seniors share their top college major choices. Despite changes in the job market, their interests stay consistent. Among the students graduating in 2025:

● 20% plan to pursue business

● 14% plan to pursue engineering

● 13% plan to pursue healthcare

● 10% plan to pursue psychology

● 9% plan to pursue biology

These areas of interest align closely with the industries represented by many of our Corporate Partners.

Cristo Rey Columbus High School

The message I would give to other companies that are interested in the Corporate Work Study program is to look long term. What does this look like over the next 10 years and how is that going to impact your organization?

Cristo Rey guided me and taught me never to give up. They allowed me to pick a college that aligned with my passion for computer science and be able to finish earlier and with a master’s degree. As a first-generation college student, I want to make my family proud, I want to make myself proud.

COLLEGE TO CAREER

The Cristo Rey Network proudly announced the Cristo Rey Network National Alumni Association’s 40 Under 40 honorees. As the second 40 Under 40 cohort, the distinguished individuals were nominated by those they have inspired and then selected by fellow alumni for their outstanding achievements in college, in the workplace, and in the community.

The honorees have become leaders in an array of industries, including Business, Education, Banking and Finance, Healthcare, Non-Profit, Law, Media, Technology, and more. Notably, their personal stories serve as powerful reminders of how education, perseverance, and support can bring about transformative change in lives today and the generations of tomorrow. Our 40 Under 40 program was sponsored by CareerSpring, one of our newest partners.

FAITH FORMATION

Guided by the collaboration of 34 Religious Sponsoring groups, Cristo Rey schools uphold and advance the finest traditions of Catholic education. Each sponsor ensures that its local school remains true to Catholic identity and mission, aligned with the religious charism of the sponsor, and governed within a Catholic school framework. Religious communities are responsible for cultivating a school culture that reflects the ethical principles of the Catholic Church, the tenets of the Cristo Rey Spirituality document, and the Cristo Rey Network Mission Effectiveness Standards—while also welcoming students from other faith traditions.

REFLECTIONS FROM OUR CHIEF MISSION OFFICER

I have been reflecting on the Gospel accounts of Jesus healing the man who was paralytic.

In many ways, this story is our Cristo Rey story. Like the paralytic, our friends and family carry us to Jesus. Our parents promise to raise us according to the teachings of Jesus, and, along with our teachers, they help us to see Jesus, to know Jesus, and to hear Jesus say “pick up your mat and walk with me.”

Our Cristo Rey schools are tools of evangelization, places where we all come to see Jesus, know Jesus, and walk with Jesus. Through academic excellence and rigor, our students come to know they are made in God’s image, sacred, and therefore deserving of the best. In the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness, our students realize their ultimate hunger and thirst for God. They discover the dignity of work, the right to work in safe conditions, and receive a just wage. Through our Corporate Work Program, our students gain access to the social capital that opens doors for a better future for themselves and their families. With prayer and service, they realize that they are loved and blessed by God. They are eager to return these blessings in service with others in the pursuit of God’s dream of a world of love, peace, and justice. College ready, work experienced, and formed as Christian leaders, our students graduate knowing they can walk with dignity as God’s children.

As we move forward in this academic year and welcome new students and their families to Cristo Rey, may we thank God for the blessing of our schools. We thank God for the generosity of all of you who help bring our students to Jesus. May God bless all of you, and may God bless the Cristo Rey Network.

¡Viva Cristo Rey!

2024-2025 SCHOOL GRANTS

Thanks to the generous Cristo Rey Network donor community, the national office offered intentional, high impact grants and direct service programs to advance progress and outcomes of our school communities locally and nationally. Designed in partnership with donors and informed by school-identified priorities, the national office dispersed nearly $2 million to schools in 2024-2025.

The following initiatives were implemented to elevate the performance and outcomes of schools and students over the last year:

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Accelerating Literacy Across the Curriculum

Generously funded by The Howley Foundation

Direct service grant awarded to 4 schools to establish Cohort D

In partnership with ThinkCERCA, Accelerating Literacy Across the Curriculum continues to provide professional development and coaching to teachers at schools in reading and writing. Building on the progress of schools in cohorts A, B, and C, participating schools access a wealth of resources - including texts, lessons, and assessmentsthat will advance students’ reading, writing, and analytical skills.

Putting MATH Education to Work

Generously funded by The Howley Foundation

Direct service grant renewed to 3 schools in Cohort VI Joining school math teachers from Cohorts I, II, III, IV, and V, and in partnership with the Silicon Valley Math Initiative, Cohort VI of Putting MATH Education to Work continues to work towards increasing math achievement for all students by improving teacher practice, promoting high levels of student engagement in mathematical thinking, and providing schools with high quality resources that positively impact classroom instruction.

COLLEGE INITIATIVES

FAFSA Completion Grant

Generously funded by the ECMC Foundation

One-year grant awarded to 18 schools

In response to unprecedented delays to the FAFSA form, the Cristo Rey Network received funding to disburse to schools to ensure student completion of the form and subsequent eligibility for financial aid for college. The funds enabled schools to collectively host 74 workshops. As a result, recipient schools achieved a 93% FAFSA completion rate for the Class of 2024.

DePaul Cristo Rey High School

SCHOOL GROWTH

Project Waitlist

Generously funded by The Howley foundation

Two-year grant renewed to 3 schools in Cohort III

In 2024, three schools renewed the second year of a twoyear grant to deploy effective student recruitment and marketing strategies to increase incoming freshman and overall school enrollment.

MISSION SUPPORT

Emergency Tuition Assistance Program

Generously funded by William McIntosh, William J. & Arline C. DeJoseph, and the W. O’Neil Foundation

One-year grant awarded to 9 schools

This fund provided tuition assistance for students who demonstrate the greatest economic need. Grants were disbursed to nine schools with the lowest average per capita household income.

Operating Support

Generously Funded by Susan & Daniel White

Various one-year grants awarded to 41 schools

In partnership with donors interested in supporting established schools in target communities, the national office passed through non competitive grants that varied in contribution size.

Executive Leadership Program

Generously funded by the Wilson Sheehan Foundation, the I.A. O’Shaughnessy Foundation, and Dr. Scholl Foundation

Concluded the direct service grant for 6 schools in Cohort III

Designed and delivered by the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business, and in collaboration with the Cristo Rey Network, the Cristo Rey Network Executive Leadership Program concluded its final cohort of participating school leadership teams. The program developed the capacity of school leaders to perform at the highest levels in order to achieve our shared mission.

Thanks to [this] generous funding, families were able to access much-needed support for their children's family contribution, easing financial burdens and opening doors to quality education. This assistance empowered parents to keep their children enrolled in school without interruption, fostering academic stability and personal growth. Many students who once faced uncertainty about their educational futures are now thriving, confident, and motivated to succeed.

This year, Cristo Rey schools collectively awarded scholarships to 411 students.

The Deloitte Foundation scholarship not only eases the financial burden of my education, but also inspires me to work even harder toward my academic and professional goals. Knowing that Cristo Rey believed in my potential is a profound motivation and I am excited to make the most of this opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to my field.
