We had the privilege of conversing with the remarkable and unstoppable force, Jabu Msomi, who serves as the Founder and CEO of JFM Coaching, specializing in life coaching. Jabu hails from the picturesque area of Botha Hill in Kwazulu Natal and is a devoted mother to her 20-year-old daughter.

Revolutionizing the Future: Digital Media Technology

Digital Girl Africa is an initiative closely associated with Ian Mangena, a Digital Media Tech Creative born in Johannesburg. Ian pursued her education at Wits University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Geographical and Archaeological Science, followed by an Honours degree in Landscape and Architecture from the University of Cape Town.

Her journey into the digital tech space began during her time as a student at Wits. Ian actively participated in the Poetry Society and served as the Chair of Rethink Africa. Together with her team, she played a pivotal role in digital marketing and spreading the message of the "Fees Must Fall" campaign in 2015 at Wits University, an initiative that later gained nationwide prominence. Their efforts included hosting one of the initial campaign meetings.

During this period, Ian recognized the transformative potential of social media and began pondering the untapped possibilities within the digital realm. She wondered how individuals could harness the power of their smartphones to generate income.

It was during this reflection that Ian identified the importance of imparting digital skills, including coding, tech writing, graphic designing, and more, to the wider community.

She took the initiative to organize online classes through Digital Girl, a platform she co-founded, where she shares these valuable skills. Ian's vision is to equip the younger generation with the necessary digital skills, empowering them for success in the evolving corporate landscape.

HARMONIZING DIGITAL MEDIA TECHNOLOGY AND ARCHITECTURE

When asked about the qualities required to be a successful "girl boss," Ian provided a thoughtful response. She emphasized that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can be a girl boss. Whether managing a nine-to-five job while pursuing side hustles, building their own businesses, or being selfemployed, Ian stressed that privilege varies among individuals. Some may be single parents or sole breadwinners, making a transition to self-employment a delicate process. It's crucial to ensure that businesses are financially stable enough to support daily expenses.

Ian also delved into the impact of entrepreneurship on mental health, discussing the challenges of remote work and the journey toward establishing a sustainable income source. She highlighted the importance of female solidarity in the digital space, emphasizing the need to support the next generation and help them reach even greater heights.

Sandy B, originally named Sandile, hails from Hammersdale, Durban, in Kwazulu Natal. Sandy's deep-seated love for music and singing blossomed at an early age, as he actively participated in the church choir and local musical groups within his community. However, little did he know that he would eventually evolve into a professional singer.

Fast forward to the early nineties, Sandy secured a position at the trendy upscale store known as Third Base. Here, he not only styled and sold clothes but also had the opportunity to interact with the music and entertainment industry's elite.

From Boomshaka to the King of Kwaito, Arthur, and Mdu, he rubbed shoulders with them all. They couldn't help but wonder why he wasn't pursuing a singing career, considering his evident passion for music, fashion, and entertainment.

Inspired by his observations and the absence of Durban-based musicians representing their city at festivals, Sandy began to contemplate a different path. During the early '90s, most musicians were based in Johannesburg full-time, and the prevailing advice was to move there if one were serious about their career. Sandy took a bold step and approached Mr. Bongikosi Ngcobo, the former of Parks and Recreation, with a request to represent KZN at a major music festival in 1994.

With backup dancers and a sharp sense of style that he had witnessed among Johannesburg-based musicians (many of whom he had dressed himself), Sandy took to the stage and freestyled a song—an unconventional move at the time. The response was overwhelming,

with the crowd dancing and singing to his name. Sandy B then recorded Durban's first Kwaito album. Although a promised music deal from Oskido (Kalawa Jazzme) didn't materialize, he found someone else who allowed him to remain independent—an unconventional move at the time but a blessing in disguise.

This independence granted him ownership of all his music, paving the way for a re-release of his music in Europe in 2023. Sandy B's Kwaito album has become one of the most downloaded on Spotify, and he has since relocated to Europe, where he currently resides and tours. Presently, he is captivating audiences in Paris, France, and has successfully rebranded his music venture in Berlin as "BIK Berlin International Kwaito."

Thabang Piet Dlamini, a self-taught fine artist with extraordinary talent, first captured our attention through his captivating artwork on Instagram and Facebook. Hailing from the Free State, he was raised by both parents, and his childhood aspirations did not include becoming an artist.

Instead, he initially pursued his dream of becoming a Biomedical Technician.

However, fate took an unexpected turn when Thabang's mother tragically passed away. To cope with his grief, he turned to painting as a form of therapy. Little did he know that this would ignite a deep passion for art within him. When he later enrolled at Vaal University of Technology to pursue his studies, his father believed he was on the path to studying Biomedicine.

Thabang had been quietly working towards a Diploma in Fine Arts, a journey that would lead him to the love of his life – fine art itself – and ultimately, extraordinary success in the art industry.

It's important not to be misled by this brief summary, as Thabang encountered numerous challenges while trying to launch his brand and secure a consistent income. Finding a gallery to sell and showcase his work proved to be a significant hurdle. However, he overcame these obstacles by leveraging the power of social media to display his creations, catching the eye of both buyers and sellers. This approach allowed him to sell his artwork not only in South Africa, specifically Johannesburg, but also internationally. One of the galleries that proudly showcases his art is EMK Links Gallery and Framing.

For Thabang Piet Dlamini, art is not just a career or a hobby; it is his therapy and the very essence of his life.

Yet, Thabang had already been bitten by the art bug. When faced with the choice of a qualification, he boldly selected Fine Arts as his study curriculum.

This revelation was kept secret from his father, who continued to believe his son was on the biomedical path until the day of graduation.
