This year, Operation TBI Freedom (OTF) proudly took center stage by accepting the highly esteemed Bob Carlone Community Service Award! Presented at the inspiring 8th Annual Honoring the Brave Breakfast at The Broadmoor International Center, this award shines a spotlight on OTF’s unwavering dedication to veterans and service members navigating life with traumatic brain injuries. It’s a celebration of the incredible impact OTF has made, providing not only vital services but also a compassionate community of support for our nation’s heroes.
Receiving this award isn’t just a recognition; it’s a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through care, compassion, and unyielding advocacy. It emphasizes the vital role that community-driven initiatives play in honoring and supporting those who have sacrificed so much. This moment is a tribute to the resilience of veterans, the dedication of our staff, and the unity of a community that stands firmly behind our heroes. Together, we’re creating a future where every veteran can find the support, respect, and resources they need to thrive.
Operation TBI Freedom proudly hosted its inaugural Alumni Induction, a momentous occasion that celebrated 11 exceptional clients who truly deserved this honor. This gathering was not just an event; it was a testament to the resilience and strength of those who have journeyed through their healing as brain injury survivors. As each alumnus and alumna stood to receive their recognition, the room was filled with a profound sense of unity, respect, and admiration. We came together as a community to acknowledge not only the triumphs of these remarkable individuals but also the unwavering dedication of the Operation TBI Freedom team, whose steadfast commitment has been the backbone of our mission.
Events like this don’t happen by chance—they happen because of the passion each staff member brings to the mission—passion for our veterans, passion for our purpose, and passion for ensuring that every milestone, big or small, resonates with lasting impact. We saw firsthand the difference that heartfelt commitment can make, turning a simple event into a cherished memory that honors both the past and the future of Operation TBI Freedom. This was an afternoon to remember, a celebration of courage, healing, and hope, made possible by the unwavering support and tireless work of a team dedicated to serving those who have served.

Denver Meal Pack
Operation TBI Freedom proudly joined forces with Craig Hospital staff to volunteer at the 9/11 Day Denver Meal Pack! Alongside over 30,000 volunteers in 21 cities nationwide, we rolled up our sleeves to fight hunger, delivering nearly 9 million meals to communities across America. This powerful event united us all in a shared mission, honoring the memory of 9/11 by turning compassion into action.
Together, we paid tribute to the spirit of unity and resilience, standing strong for those in need. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and heart to this incredible cause—together, we made a real difference!

Operation Phoenix Recovery (OPR)

OPR: Every 4th Friday of each month. Operation TBI Freedom is dedicated to assisting veterans and their families on their journey to healing and recovery. OPR, our PTSD Peer Support Group, is a cornerstone of our efforts, providing a safe and nurturing space for veterans who have experienced trauma to connect, heal, and thrive.
This quarter, Sarah Lowrey led and facilitated insightful sessions for OTF on the following topics: Mindfulness for PTSD, Communicating Effectively with PTSD, and PTSD and Memory Issues. She created a supportive environment, encouraging open dialogue and providing practical advice to improve veterans' social interactions, family dynamics, and personal well-being.

Operation TBI Freedom’s inaugural Women’s Retreat in Breckenridge was a transformative experience that brought together women veterans to reflect, recharge, and reconnect. Set in the peaceful Colorado mountains, it created an atmosphere of support and solidarity.
Participants enjoyed a variety of activities, from candle-making and yoga to guided journaling, each offering a chance to relax and express themselves. A night out for dinner sparked laughter and camaraderie, while campfire chats provided a safe space to share stories and talk openly about the unique challenges they face as women veterans.
This retreat was a celebration of strength, sisterhood, and resilience. Each woman left with a renewed sense of purpose and new friendships that will last beyond the retreat—a supportive network for the journey ahead. This gathering honored their service and courage and marked the beginning of many more connections and conversations to come.

TBI education is fundamental to the recovery process. It provides survivors and their families the knowledge to identify symptoms, seek appropriate care, and create a supportive healing environment. By encouraging collaboration between professionals and the community, TBI education fosters a comprehensive approach to recovery.
Thanks to Tim Patrick's dedication, we've brought together experienced classroom instructors from Craig Hospital and our local community. These experts offer essential insights and knowledge about TBIs, empowering individuals and their support networks with the information needed to better understand their condition and its impact.
The topics facilitated by Tim Patrick this past quarter—Vestibular and Balance issues after a Brain Injury, Living with TBI & PTSD, and Self-Advocacy & Living Well after a Brain Injury —are crucial for empowering individuals with TBIs and their support networks. These sessions equip participants with vital knowledge and practical tools to navigate life after a TBI.

TBI peer support groups are vital for our veterans, providing them with essential tools to manage their condition and improve their lives. This past quarter, John Lenz facilitated key classes on various TBI aspects. Through these support groups, we're able to normalize the consequences of TBI, helping participants feel validated and supported in their recovery journey.
This quarter, John Lenz led and facilitated insightful sessions for OTF on the following topics: Self Advocacy After TBI, Benefits of Social Contact & Recreation After TBI, and Healthy Lifestyle Choices for TBI Recovery & Well-Being.
Through these peer support groups, Operation TBI Freedom and John Lenz have equipped veterans with practical knowledge and skills, fostering resilience and independence on their recovery journey.

These endeavors not only provide moments of joy and relaxation but also serve as vital components of holistic rehabilitation and social connection.
Engaging in recreational pursuits offers numerous benefits for individuals affected by TBI. Physical activities promote mobility, coordination, and overall health, contributing to improved well-being and quality of life. Additionally, recreational activities stimulate cognitive function,

OTF Military Support Specialist II
Q: What is your involvement with military veteran brain injury survivors?
Provide individualized complex case management through assessment, collaborative goal setting, monitoring of progress, and mentorship to positively affect client independence. Additionally, I facilitate Operation TBI Freedom's monthly PTSD small group—Operation Phoenix Rising (OPR).
Q: What is your favorite thing to do outside of work? Reading biographies and non-fiction historical books, exercising, watching sports, and Metal Detecting.
Q: What OTF Value means the most to you? It's close and can vary monthly, but Independence means the most to me. Assisting and coaching clients to overcome a disability sets our clients up to maximize their future success.
For over 15 years, John Lenz has been a cornerstone of Operation TBI Freedom, embodying what it means to be a dedicated team member, mentor, and leader without the need for a title. As a stellar case manager, John’s compassionate approach has helped countless veterans navigate the complexities of traumatic brain injury with dignity and resilience. Beyond his case management duties, he leads Operation TBI Freedom’s TBI Peer Support Groups, providing a safe space for veterans to connect, share, and heal. His role as the team trainer has allowed him to coach and mentor every staff member, guiding them with the wisdom of his experience and an encouraging hand.
John’s contribution extends well beyond his job description—he continually goes above and beyond to support his colleagues and clients in ways that often go unnoticed but are essential to the seamless operation of the organization. His quiet acts of service, his unwavering dedication, and his natural ability to inspire make him the epitome of leadership. John embodies what it means to be a leader, showing every day that influence and integrity transcend titles—this guy has the stuff of true leaders!
Vet of the Quarter: Brandon Jardine

SFC. Brandon Jardine’s 22-year military career is marked by resilience and dedication. Beginning as a Motor Transport Operator, he served with honor through seven deployments across multiple conflicts, including Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the Kosovo conflict. His bravery and commitment earned him numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star, Kosovo Campaign Medal, NATO Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal, showcasing his unwavering service to the nation.
Since joining Operation TBI Freedom in February 2023, Brandon has become a valued member of the OTF family, not only in his dedication to veterans but also through his inspiring journey of personal growth. He is actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and channels his creativity into crafting hand-made wooden artwork that he generously donates to veteran organizations, including OTF, spreading support and camaraderie within the community. Brandon has shown profound resilience, persevering in his journey with determination and focus. As a dedicated husband, father, and friend to veterans, he exemplifies strength and compassion, inspiring all who know him. Congratulations, Brandon!
