Elementary Monica Garcia is a 5th grade ESL teacher at Gloria Hicks Elementary School.

Ms. Garcia believes in a classroom that ensures the development of every child, one that establishes and encourages understanding, appreciation and togetherness. She connects with her students by building a relationship with each of them. She strives to engage them in activities that help them discover their true potential.

Secondary Laurel Brashears is the theatre teacher at Veterans Memorial High School.

Ms. Brashears’ philosophy of teaching includes connecting with students through humor and teaching them about life, exploring what it is to be human and to forge connections in the modern age. She says her job is to encourage her students to loosen up so they have the freedom to explore their environment, try new ideas, and see the world from another point of view.

Congratulations, Monica and Laurel! You make us #CCISDproud.

Above the Line Employees of the Month Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez recently announced the February Above the Line employees.Three honorees were surprised at their work locations with the announcement they had been selected.

UPDATE EMPLOYEE BENEFITS PAGE Employee Benefits has an updated webpage with many different subjects for all employees. You may also contact the Office of Human Resources at 695-7250 or send an email to insurance@ ccisd.us regarding questions with any of the insurance coverages or employee benefits questions.

Please do not include your personal information when sending emails, i.e. date of birth, medical bills with personal information, social security number, etc.

Laura is an exemplary employee. Any team lucky enough to have her would be amazed by her performance, her dedication to the success of others and her commitment to quality work. Her analytical skills and abilities to understand, decipher and extract huge amounts of data and turn it into meaningful reports have helped district and campus administrators as well as teachers support CCISD students’ success for nearly 30 years.

Auxiliary - Cristina Arrisola, PE Paraprofessional Zachary Kolda Elementary School Coach Arrisola is loved by everyone in our Kolda community:staff,students and parents.She truly embodies the meaning of team and selflessness, and is one of the greatest role models on our campus. Everything Coach does is student-centered. She spends countless hours tracking the students’ miles, and displays them so that they can see how accomplished they are. Kolda is truly blessed to have her!

Educator - Alma Silva, 1st grade Bilingual Teacher Lorenzo de Zavala Elementary School Mrs. Silva is the coordinator for Zavala’s multicultural club.

During the year, she worked with the community, staff and students to make the club’s first year a success. Mrs. Silva helps empower her students to be proud of their culture.

Mrs. Silva consistently strives to “Go Above (and beyond) The Line” to achieve the most benefit for our students.

CCISD Timely Information EARLY NOTICE INCENTIVE For the ninth year, CCISD will be offering professional contract employees (teachers and administrators) an Early Notice Incentive. Employees who meet the criteria and who notify the District by March 23 of their intentions to resign at the end of the 2019-2020 school year will qualify. For more information, please contact the Office of Human Resources at 695-7250.

HEALTH INSURANCE PREMIUM SAVINGS OPPORTUNITY – BIOMETRICS FORM The District has partnered with BlueCross BlueShield once again to provide discounted health insurance premiums. In order to continue the discounted rate of $60 per month, employees need to submit the Biometric Screening Form to the Department of Human Resources by August 31. If you have any questions, please contact Human Resources at 695-7250 or send an email to insurance@ccisd.us.

HEALTH PLAN REVIEW SESSIONS RECAP Presentations were provided last month to give employees an opportunity to learn more about their BlueCross BlueShield Plans and the many resources available to employees which could help in minimizing overall costs to your health care.

CCISD MONITORS CORONAVIRUS The District is monitoring reports and information from the Nueces County Health Department, the Texas Department of State Health Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Read Superintendent Dr. Roland Hernandez’s letter for more information. We will continue to monitor information as it is available and work to ensure a healthy educational environment for all students and staff.

SAVE THE DATE All Employee & Family Health & Wellness Fair Mark your calendar for the “Spring into a Healthier You” Health & Wellness Fair to be held from 9 a.m.–1 p.m .at the Richard King High School gym on Saturday, April 25.

There will be 30-40 vendors present and over $500 in giveaways!

This event is for employees, their family members and our local community.

It is also National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs. An authorized representative will be present for this activity.

Coastal Bend Blood Center and other community partners will be present.
