Elementary Monica Garcia is a 5th grade ESL teacher at Gloria Hicks Elementary School. Ms. Garcia believes in a classroom that ensures the development of every child, one that establishes and encourages understanding, appreciation and togetherness. She connects with her students by building a relationship with each of them. She strives to engage them in activities that help them discover their true potential. Secondary Laurel Brashears is the theatre teacher at Veterans Memorial High School. Ms. Brashears’ philosophy of teaching includes connecting with students through humor and teaching them about life, exploring what it is to be human and to forge connections in the modern age. She says her job is to encourage her students to loosen up so they have the freedom to explore their environment, try new ideas, and see the world from another point of view. Congratulations, Monica and Laurel! You make us #CCISDproud.
