ISI Online Registration Process and It’s fact

In order to ensure that quality products are sold in the Indian markets, certain standards were introduced in the post-Independence Indian markets. ISI is the former BIS name for 'Indian Standards Institute' and is identified with a seven-digit unique license number (CM/L-XXXXXXX).

Manufacturers must obtain this ISI certification from the supreme governing body of India, i.e. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for the sale in India of specific products. ISI Mark certification on market products ensures that the manufacture of the product has undergone high-quality controls and complies with the regulations set by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Certification scheme for domestic manufacturers: Under this certification, the applicant is required to submit an application form to the local office of the BIS branch, after which the corresponding BIS

officer carries out a preliminary evaluation. The location of the manufacturer is checked for its capacity, technical staff and samples for independent testing. The grant of a license is considered after the regular testing of the sample product with the corresponding Indian standards is passed. In the case of all first licenses in India, the entire process generally takes about 4 months and 6 months. There are also specific laboratories that test products and it is necessary to submit these reports along with the application form. The appropriate license is granted with verification and testing, too.

Certification Scheme for Foreign Manufacturers (FMCS): This certification is given to foreign manufacturers for the use of the Indian Certification Mark on their products, with the exception of Deity-notified Electronics & IT Goods.

ECO Mark Scheme: ECO Mark is applied under this product certification scheme to products specified solely for environmentally-friendly products. The entire process is the same with some specific policy of the manufacturer to be followed separately.

NORMAL LICENSE GRANT PROCEDURE The procedure for granting a license for BIS certification starts with the submission of an application on the application form prescribed by the manufacturer wishing to obtain the ISI license. An application number is recorded and assigned when the application and the documents attached to the facilitation desk are reviewed, if the application is complete in all respects.

INSPECTION PRELIMINARY The preliminary inspection of the unit shall be conducted on the date allocated after the order has been registered. The capabilities and manufacturing controls of the company, quality control techniques, available testing facilities, and the technical skills of the staff are evaluated during this inspection.

Product samples are tested and also extracted at the laboratories specified for the product for analysis.

Fees for preliminary visits are charged from time to time at the rate set by the BIS. The cost of the test established during a preliminary visit to an independent test must be paid by the applicant. The product marking rate is discussed with the applicant's administration during preliminary checks, tests and control procedures.

LICENSING A license to use a standard trademark on a product shall be granted only after the BIS has continuously guaranteed the manufacturer's ability to produce the product in accordance with the corresponding Indiana standard. This is done through a preliminary factory evaluation to determine the manufacturer's ability to produce the products, including raw materials, manufacturing process, manufacturing capacity and control facilities, in accordance with the Indian standard. Test equipment and monitoring staff are included. At the factory, samples are tested. At the same time, samples are also taken for analysis in independent laboratories in order to evaluate their conformity to the relevant standard. The manufacturer must agree to use, as approved from time to time by the BIS, a well-defined testing and inspection program which prescribes specific tests and their frequency of completion. The manufacturer must also agree to pay the product fees set by the BIS. The license is granted only if these conditions are accepted by the manufacturer and if the inspection and test reports at the factory are satisfactory.

VALIDITY

The initial period for which the license is valid is one year. Subject to satisfactory exploitation of the license, the ISI licence may be renewed for an additional period of one to two years, as observed during periodic inspections, factory tests and independent samples taken at the factory and on the market.
