What is WPC? 

Introduction WPC simply stands for Wireless Planning and Coordination. It is a National Radio Regulatory Authority subject to creation in 1952. It falls under the Ministry of Communications. It is responsible for performing certain functions which include: Management of frequency spectrum Looking after the needs of wireless users Exercising function of central government to issue licenses for establishing, maintaining and operating wireless stations. Types of WPC certificate/license Following is the list of different types of WPC certificate/license: 1) Import License: The Government of India issues or grants WPC Import Licenses or certificates. This license allows the holder to bring certain products and services into the territory of country. Each Import License has a limit that determines the maximum number of goods that can be imported and must not be exceeded. This Import License is provided by WPC for the import of any equipment or device that is not a Broadcasting Receiver or a TVRO system. Aside from that, WPC does need an import license for all devices and equipment. 2) Dealer Possession license: A Dealer Possession License is required by potential wireless retailers and distributors. Wireless devices or associated telegraphic equipment may not be leased, transferred, or sold to someone who does not have a valid license. 3) Internet Service Provider License (ISP): Any business wishing to provide internet services across the country must first acquire an Internet Service Provider (ISP) licence from the Telecommunications Department (DoT). ISP licences were divided into three groups based on their size and magnitude of operations: A, B, and C. The service area Group A includes the entire country of India. The Category B coverage area includes all 20 Federal Telecom Circles and four Metro cities. 4) Equipment Form Approval (ETA): WPC's Equipment Type Approval (ETA) is necessary before any wireless device that does not require a WPC license and operates in a de-licensed frequency band is imported into India. Bluetooth systems, mobile phones, Wi-Fi technology and other gadgets fall under this group.

Procedure to apply for WPC License /certificate The following steps must be followed to apply for the WP certificate: 1) Download the prescribed application form from the website 2) Fill and submit the application form along with requisite fee in WPC office 3) License would be granted subject to review.


Documents required for acquiring WPC Certificate The following documents must be attached along with the application form: 1) Business registration proof 2) Business GST registration 3) Authorized person id and address proof 4) Radiofrequency test report from an ISO 17025 accredited foreign lab or any NABL accredited Indian lab 5) Letter of Authorization 6) Product technical literature 7) IEC (in import case) 8) Purchase order (in import case) Conclusion In the nut shell it can be concluded that under WPC certain licenses must be acquired in order to facilitating the easy process of getting product or device into India.
