GOVERNMENT OF INDIA ORGANIZED FOREIGN MANUFACTURER'S SCHEME UNDER BIS CERTIFICATION The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the national Rules Body of India running under the aegis of Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Government of India. It is organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 which grew into an impact on 23 December 1986. The Minister in charge of the Ministry or Department possessing regulatory control of the BIS is the exofficio President of the BIS. The demands for compliance with this scheme are based mainly on the safety aspects of a product. Models of types of products required to comply with this scheme are information technology devices, office equipment, LED lighting products, and home appliances. The number of products and product levels demanding acquiescence is constantly evolving. BIS registration does not currently want factory investigations, but the market direction of products is simple. A candidate has a limited period to reply to a BIS request for product inspection. This request is allotted to the AIR, as the legal deputy of the product in India. With the appearance of liberalization in the Indian economy, the growth of foreign market players has largely increased. In the past three decades, India has observed deep market diffusion of foreign corporations. It is relevant to consider those different countries have various standards of product certification and are accordingly classified. However, to confirm that Indian customers receive products of a standard feature, the Government of India has organized the Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme under the purview of the Bureau of Indian Standards (hereinafter referred to as ‘BIS’). The Foreign Manufacturer’s Certification Scheme is conferred to a foreign manufacturer, operating in India, when the products produced by it are following the designated Indian standards under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. The Scheme applies to all products except Electronics and IT Goods (as notified by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology) as Electronics and IT fall under the category of Compulsory Certification. The license is provided by Foreign Manufacturers Certification Department (FMCD) established at BIS Headquarters, New Delhi. The product which fulfills the requirement of the Indian Standard can receive the license under intentional or mandatory certification.
