Skip hire do’s and don’ts! If your skip needs to be placed on the public highway (any road adopted or maintained by the council) you will need a valid permit from your local council. This is normally taken care of via the skip company, but it’s always worth checking. For obvious reasons certain materials, such as asbestos, cannot be disposed of in a standard skip. You will be liable for any illegal materials placed in your skip so you must check with the council what is and what’s not allowed. As a rough guide the following waste is normally acceptable: Bricks, Rubble, Wood, Metal, Hard Core,Plastics, vegetation / green waste, Furniture, Furnishings, Fittings (non-electrical), Cookers, Fittings (nonelectrical), Plastic, Packaging (including cardboard, plastics, polystyrene, Domestic waste such as food and food packaging, Soil (not contaminated with asbestos or oil), Solidified paint.
