COPPER MOUNTAIN’S ONGOING COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITY.

BEYOND THE LOCAL ENVIRONMENT

Copper targets opportunities to reduce energy consumption around the resort, divert waste from the landfill and contribute to the resiliency of the mountain ecosystem. With many successful sustainability programs in place at Copper, the resort has taken on the role of teaching others about how they can think outside the box and enact new, innovative programs in reducing environmental impacts. Copper’s native seed collection program has been operational since 2018, and now the resort has partnered with businesses, resorts and local non-profits to help in the process of seed collection. Not only does this support Copper’s ability to replant seeds on the mountain, but it teaches others how they can start similar programs in their own communities. This effort corresponds to Copper’s commitment to facilitating conversation in the industry. The resort will host its 4th annual Ski Conservation Summit on July 24, inviting resorts and land conservationists to share best practices in ecosystem preservation. Copper expects representatives from Eldora, Arapahoe Basin, Vail Resorts, Echo Mountain, Mt. Bachelor and more to join and participate in this year’s event.

INVESTMENT IN COMMUNITY

Copper supports dozens of community partners each year through several giving programs. During the summer, the resort will support two non-profits through Play Forever Summer Giving, where donations are generated through summer activity pass sales. Play Forever Summer Giving is expected to raise $20,000 for this summer’s two partners, Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation and Smart Bellies. Children’s Hospital has partnered with Copper Mountain for decades to host the annual Courage Classic bicycle tour. Courage Classic will be rolling through the resort on July 20-21 this summer. Likewise, Smart Bellies provides meal and snack assistance to identified students throughout Summit and Lake counties that need food support on weekends, holidays and over the summer break. Support these critical community partners by buying a summer activity pass during July and August.

EMPLOYEES TAKING ACTION

The Copper Environmental Foundation (CEF) is an employee founded and run organization with a broad mission to support environmental programs in Summit and Lake Counties. Copper Employees voluntarily contribute to the CEF through tax-deductible donations from their paychecks, and Copper Mountain matches their donations at 100%. All funds collected are distributed through grants to local organizations during an annual grant cycle during the spring. This year’s grant recipients include the Mountain Top Explorium, the Keystone Science School, High Country Conservation Center, Wildflower Nature School, and Friends of the Dillon Ranger District supporting. The CEF’s grants will support things like FDRD’s youth forest stewards’ program and gardens at the Wildflower Nature School. Since the organization was founded in 2007, the CEF has granted over $425,000 to youth education programs in the community.

INDUSTRY RECOGNITION

2024 OVERALL ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE FINALIST

CIRQU RECYCLING PROGRAM

Copper’s CIRQU Recycling program has been named a finalist for the 2024 National Ski Area Association’s Golden Eagle Award in Overall Environmental Excellence. The CIRQU Recycling program was initially rolled out at Copper Mountain during the 2022-23 season in partnership with PepsiCo and Replenysh. Through CIRQU, Copper can circulate aluminum and plastic through closed loop recycling and allows the resort’s partners at Pepsi to integrate the material back into their supply chain. The program is helping to eliminate downcycling and works in tandem with Copper’s integration of Ball Aluminum Cups into resort dining outlets. Bins for the program have been integrated into food and beverage operations and common spaces across the resort. Since it began, the program has recycled over 15,000 pounds of aluminum and plastic.

2024 COMMUNITY & PARTNERSHIPS FINALIST — SKI CONSERVATION SUMMIT

Copper’s Ski Conservation Summit has been named a finalist for the 2024 National Ski Area Association’s Golden Eagle Award in Community & Partnerships. Copper Mountain has taken strides to be a sustainability leader in the ski industry. The resort not only institutes innovative practices but has focused on creating a space to facilitate a space for sustainable conversations and idea sharing. Each July, the resort hosts an annual Ski Conservation Summit, inviting industry partners, local land managers and organizations to share best practices when it comes to preserving our natural environment. Resorts from across Colorado have come to participate and learn from one another about ongoing projects or new techniques of land restoration and responsible land management.

2024 CSCUSA FOOD AND BEVERAGE PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR

AMY GEPPI

Amy Geppi, Copper’s Director of Food and Beverage, has been recognized as Colorado Ski Country’s Food and Beverage Professional at this year’s Double Diamond Awards. Amy has been leading Copper’s F&B operations since 2020. This season, Copper welcomed its new mid-mountain lodge, Aerie. The lodge consists of a full-service restaurant, food hall, coffee shop, and bar. Aerie is the first lodge of its kind and Copper and Amy’s leadership overseeing the inaugural season of the new building and its innovative dining options was essential to its success.

MOUNTAIN IMPROVEMENTS

TIMBERLINE LIFT UPGRADE

Copper Mountain has confirmed its partnership with Leitner Poma to upgrade the Timberline Express chairlift located on the western side of the mountain. The resort is replacing the 4-person chairlift with a high-speed 6-pack chairlift, which will greatly increase the lift’s uphill capacity. The new lift is being installed this summer and set to debut for the 2024-25 winter season. This upgrade reaffirms Copper Mountain’s commitment to investing in the on-mountain experience. The chair replacement is in continuation of the resort’s Western Territory expansion and once complete, will increase access to some of Copper Mountain’s most sought-after groomed terrain. With a focus on enhancing convenience and accessibility, the upgrade will cater to both seasoned athletes and beginners, ensuring everyone can spend more time exploring the resort’s Western Territory and less time on the lift.

IMPROVEMENTS

THE ATHLETE’S MOUNTAIN THE ATHLETE’S MOUNTAIN THE ATHLETE’S MOUNTAIN

MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAIL EXPANSION

Copper continues to expand its network of mountain bike trails offering a space for growth on comfortable terrain. The resort will roll out 22 miles of new trails in seven phases over the coming years. The resort has built two new trails since 2021 including Loose Moose, offering a technical descent, navigating rocky terrain on the western most side of the mountain. Gopher It, an intermediate trail, can be accessed from the top of the Woodward Express lift and includes tabletops, berms, rollable features and more. Last summer, Copper finished the second half of the trail which connects into the large trail system on the West side of the mountain. This summer, new trails are set to open from the top of the American Eagle lift.

SPRING ALPINE RACE TRAINING

Copper hosts progression camps for alpine athletes

As part of Copper’s commitment to providing year-round training opportunities for athletes of all ages and ability levels, the resort will welcome alpine ski racers to the slopes for spring training in May and June. Racers will utilize three trails for training in the early morning hours. Copper’s north facing slope and high elevation provide for excellent snow preservation during the late spring months. Before the heat of summer moves in, athletes from the Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team, will take to the hill for late season training in preparation for the 2024/25 World Cup season. Young athletes from local and national club teams will also visit Copper to train alongside the best in the business, logging crucial late season hours on the hill, providing extra development and repetition opportunities on Giant Slalom and Slalom courses.

SUMMER HIKE PARK

Copper continues to extend the snowy season into the heart of summer. With an abundance of snowfall and a cooler-than-average spring, snow is sticking around in Center Village. Copper Mountain is once again offering a public Hike Park for skiers and riders. With nearly a dozen rail features, guests can lap the park starting Friday, June 6 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the snow fades. Guests must purchase a $25 ticket per person per day to shred the park while the pile remains. Copper is the only ski resort in the state where guests can access snow as late as September.

Not only will the Summer Hike Park be in action, but skiers and riders are also invited to test their skills in several rail jam events throughout the season. Join Copper on July 5 during Red, White, Brews & Tunes, August 10 during Copper Country and on September 6 as part of Union Peak Festival. Look out for more details about rail jams at the Athlete’s Mountain this summer at CopperColorado.com. With the Union Peak rail jam scheduled, Copper hopes to complete its first full year of having athletes on snow 12 months out of the year.

CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TRAIL

A ribbon that winds its way south to north through the United States, the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) passes through Copper Mountain. The 3,100mile trail stretches between the borders of Mexico and Canada. Annually, only a few hundred brave, long-distance hikers will embark on the end-to-end trek encountering deserts, rocky peaks and forested mountains as they cross through five states. In Colorado, CDT hikers will link with the Colorado trail and travel directly through Copper Mountain Resort on their five-month journey.
