NOTES
In 2022, COO selected nine community partnerships with a focus on place and/or cultural communities. The table includes indicator data for 2022 to reflect population-level conditions in the geographies and cultural communities of these partnerships and for King County overall. ACS, PUMS, and BRFSS data are based on 2018-2022 5-year data estimates. Data from HYS, which is administered every other year, are based on the 2021 survey. The geographies and cultural communities presented in this table differ from those reported in past Best Starts for Kids annual reports due to new partnerships funded in the second phase of the Best Starts levy.
*The COO Composite is the sum of eight indicators that reflects multiple dimensions related to health in an area or population.
These include life expectancy, rates of obesity, smoking, diabetes, frequent mental distress, unemployment, and living below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), and poor housing condition. Sub-groups with composite scores lower or higher than the King County average reflect better or poorer conditions, respectively, compared to King County as a whole.
**The Residential Migration indicator uses data from Washington State’s All Payer Claims Database which covers over 70% of King County residents.
It is a proxy measure for displacement, as it shows movement out of a given geography over a given period of time (i.e., outmigration).
Due to data limitations, we are unable to make estimates based on race/ethnicity nor are we able to ascertain why a move occurred.
The estimates represent the population weighted average rate of outmigration (leaving ZIP code) from an origin ZIP code in the area of interest to another ZIP code in Washington State.
The estimates are adjusted to account for partial years of residence (e.g. the denominator is person-years observed at origin).
^The Snoqualmie/North Bend area also includes the Duvall, Carnation, Skykomish, and Northeast King County HRA.
For the indicator on youth in school or employed based on the PUMS data, the result is for the Snoqualmie City, Cottage Lake, Union Hill & Novelty Hill PUMA (2010 PUMA 53 11616).
! For cultural communities, the data for Asian/NHPI, Black, and Hispanic communities are for the Central/South Seattle and South King County COO areas, including unincorporated South King County.
