OAM honours for Jane Judd Conservation and environmental champion, Jane Judd, was named a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2022 Queen’s Birthday Honours. After more than 40 years living, working and raising a family in Coonabarabran, Mrs Judd has recently relocated to Sydney. However, her roots run deep, with a strong connection to the local landscape and its people. Mrs Judd is a former science teacher of St Lawrence’s Central School and principal of the Warrumbungle National Park Environmental Education Centre, and helped to found the Warrrumbungle Wheelers Cycling Club and the Coonabarabran Bushwalking Club. A wealth of knowledge, she has served and chaired on a number of committees including the Northern Plains Regional Advisory Committee and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Advisory Council. She has been an active member of environmental groups such as Friends of the Pilliga and Coonabarabran Residents Against Gas, and has
also acted as an environmental representative on committees for the Brigalow and Nandewar Community Conservation Area Act and the Narromine to Narrabri Inland Rail. Mrs Judd said she was blown away by the well wishes being thrown her way. “I don’t know what to say - to all those who have offered their congratulation on the OAM, I thank you,” Mrs Judd said. “But recognise that I haven’t earned it without being part of a loving and supportive community. “And we all do it for the future - so coming generations can’t say, “I used to see koalas/ cicadas/butter flies/yellow robins when I was young. But they’ve all disappeared now.” “The future is not predetermined. Our actions shape it. “It is important to all of us and we must never give up. “What is this honour, but a call to future action?”
Keep your eye out online for a special one-on-one interview the Coonabarabran Times filmed with Mrs Judd earlier this year.
