In Texas, anticipation is growing as construction crews rebuild 90 miles of track on the South Orient Rail Line. Funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) National Highway Freight Network, the projects include a $5.4 million rehabilitation of 53.4 miles of track in Irion and Reagan counties, and a $4.1 million rehabilitation of 37.4 miles of track in Crane and Upton counties. “This is part of the ongoing rehabilitation of the entire rail line, and is necessary to allow us to respond to growing freight demand along with continued economic development and safe, efficient rail operations on the route,” said Marc Williams, deputy executive director of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). “The South Orient Railroad supports the agriculture and oil and gas industry in the region, and is an important investment in the vitality of the West Texas economy.” The current project began in October 2017 and is nearing completion. The much-needed improvements on the freight line are considered critical to the region’s future, and are being made at an opportune time. Work on the line comes when yearly carload counts have increased by nearly 300 percent over the past five years. “When the rehabilitation of the rail line began late in 2009, the railroad employed eight people and served 12 customers, most of which were seasonal services related to the agricultural industry,” said Williams. “Annual carloads averaged 2,031 from 2000 to 2009. Since the rail line efficiencies have improved, the railroad now employs 63 people and services 30 shipper locations. For 2017, carloads totaled 43,737.” Shipments due to oil and gas exploration in the region continued to make up the largest share of traffic on the line in 2016. This traffic continued to climb, even with reduced prices for hydrocarbons. Inbound sand received registered over 3,000 carloads more than the previous year. Crude oil shipments totaled 1,040 carloads for 2016, an increase of 624 compared to 2015. The total carloads interchanged were 30,565, which is an 18 percent increase from the previous year. Wheat shipments totaled 1,369 carloads, up 44 percent.

Funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) National Highway Freight Network, the projects include a $5.4 million rehabilitation of 53.4 miles of track in Irion and Reagan counties, and a $4.1 million rehabilitation of 37.4 miles of track in Crane and Upton counties.

The $9.5 million provided for the project will help rebuild the section of infrastructure that officials believe can play a vital role in the economic development of the state. Williams said receiving federal dollars is crucial. “The majority of TxDOT’s funding comes

from fuel taxes. The Texas constitution limits fuel tax funds to highway projects. This is a unique opportunity to further strengthen our transportation infrastructure.” see RAIL page 12

California Expects Major $183B Boost to Economy A comprehensive new analysis finds that an April 2017 California law will generate nearly $183 billion in economic activity and user benefits throughout all sectors of the state’s economy over 10 years. The additional demand, in turn, will also support or create an average of over 68,200 jobs per year, adding up to over 682,000 job-years over the next decade — with more than half coming in sectors outside of the construction industry.

The 62-page analysis, conducted by American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) Chief Economist Alison Premo Black, examines the numerous impacts of Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) — the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The measure included $5 billion annually in new investments for the state’s highways and local streets, bridges and transit systems. see CALIFORNIA page 36

Lewis made the comments in a combination of prepared remarks at a March 7 hearing and responses to questions from lawmakers. He was testifying on behalf of 14 western state DOTs that are in a road user charge coalition to test emerging options to collect revenue based on how much drivers use the roadway system.

He said that while for many years states and the federal government collected plenty of revenue from drivers through fuel taxes, that has eroded with higher-efficiency vehicles and threatens to weaken further as more vehicles enter the national fleet that do not need gasoline or diesel fuel. And Lewis said that Colorado, like the federal government, has further lost purchasing power by not indexing the gas taxes to inflation. â€œThe gas tax as we know it is dying,â€? he said in the prepared remarks. As a result, he said Colorado and other states are pursuing options other than new highway construction to help manage traffic flow, while also conducting pilot tests or limited programs to explore mileage-based fees to collect revenue. â€œIn short, our states are working as laboratories and producing meaningful, replicable results,â€? Lewis said. But when asked by a lawmaker what the VMT pilot shows and whether Congress could begin using such a user charge, he said, â€œWe are not there today. We are not there, ready to implement a road usage charge today. Thatâ€™s why we have these pilot programs in place.â€? He described the road user charge model as a â€œpotential future replacementâ€? for fuel taxes as a funding model. Pressed for how long he thinks it would take to switch to a mileage fee, Lewis said, â€œI would say itâ€™s probably still 10 years off before it can be fully implemented.â€? In the meantime, he said that â€œif we are ever to get to a road usage charge we need a [funding] bridge to get there.â€? Highlights of the Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s March 5 meeting include an update on major work requiring weekend closures of I-235 in Oklahoma City and a briefing on legislative and funding issues, including the status of the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges program. Commissioners approved contracts for projects on I-235 and I-44 in Oklahoma City, U.S.-169 near Owasso and U.S.-75 in Tulsa. Also awarded were contracts for improvements to U.S.-81 in Kingfisher County, U.S.-77 in Garvin County and I-44 in Comanche County. Mike Patterson, Oklahoma Department of Transportation executive director, updated the commission on the work to hang the beams for the new N. 50th St. bridge over I235 in Oklahoma City that required closure of the interstate over the previous weekend. He noted that a previously planned closure for the upcoming weekend to remove the old BNSF railroad bridge over I-235 would be delayed due to additional coordination with the railroad company and site preparation required. The full closure will now likely take place in early April. This work is part of on-going reconstruction and widening of the interstate to six lanes. Patterson reported on the status of the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges fund, which receives an annual allocation of state funding to help match federal and local funding for major county projects and is administered by ODOT. Since creation of the CIRB program in 2006, major construction has been performed on 496 county bridges and 662 mi. of county roads. Unfortunately, the program has taken significant funding cuts since 2015 with a total of $230 million transferred out of the CIRB fund to help balance the state budget. “While no future projects have been removed from the five-year CIRB plan due to these funding reductions so far, the cuts have put the CIRB fund in the red and in the position that progress will be slowed on contracts for planned county projects going forward,” Patterson said. Finally, Patterson commended ODOT

crews who worked around the clock during recent winter weather and flooding events in several parts of the state. He noted that the freeze and thaw cycles and the recent rainfall has exacerbated already deteriorated highway pavement conditions statewide, causing ODOT workers to be very busy repairing roadways damaged with potholes. Commissioners voted to award contracts for the widening of the northbound I-235 off-ramp to N. 23rd St. and rehabilitation of the westbound I-44 bridge/ramp over SH-66 and SH-74 in Oklahoma City. Contracts were approved for Tulsa area projects including resurfacing of more than three miles of U.S.-169 near Owasso and rehabilitation of the Peoria Ave. bridge over U.S.-75 in Tulsa. The commission also awarded contracts for reconstruction of more than 3 miles of U.S.-81 near Kingfisher, replacement of the U.S.-77 bridge over the Washita River near Wynnewood and resurfacing of more than 3 mi. of I-44 in Lawton. Commissioners voted to award 54 contracts totaling nearly $87 million to improve highways, roads and bridges in 35 counties. Contracts were awarded for projects in Adair, Caddo, Canadian, Cherokee, Comanche, Cotton, Craig, Creek, Delaware, Garvin, Grady, Harper, Jackson, Kay, Kingfisher, Kiowa, Lincoln, Major, Marshall, Mayes, Muskogee, Noble, Oklahoma, Osage, Pawnee, Pittsburg, Roger Mills, Seminole, Sequoyah, Texas, Tulsa, Washington, Washita, Woods and Woodward counties. Construction has begun on a 9.3-mi., $22 million reconstruction of New Mexico Highway 41 from just south of Galisteo, a census-designated place, south to Clark Hill in northcentral New Mexico. The construction site is west of I-285 and about 79 mi. northeast of Albuquerque. Galisteo, located south of Santa Fe, N.M., is part of the Santa Fe metropolitan statistical area. Santa Fe has a population of 83,875 residents. NM 41 is a winding rural highway that is seeing more use these days. In addition to roadway reconstruction, crews will replace pavement, widen the width of roadway, conduct subgrade and earthwork, construct metal guardrail and concrete wall barrier, modify bridge railing, conduct headwall repair, install culverts, handle traffic control including detours, erect permanent signing and apply highway striping. Workers will remove existing pavement build two 12-ft.-wide lanes with 6-ft.-wide shoulders. Regarding subgrade work, crews will treat the subgrade with lime for the full length of the project. The project began on Oct. 16, 2017 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2018, weather permitting. Work was suspended for winter at the end of December 2017. Crews will C in early spring 2018, resume work weather permitting.

NMDOT’s Moriarty Project Office Oversees Construction The New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Moriarty Project Office is overseeing construction management on the project. Mountain States Constructors Inc. of Albuquerque is contractor. The company was selected as the lowest bidder for the project. Founded in 1980, Mountain States Constructors’s line of business includes providing management consultation services on a contract and fee basis. Major subcontractors working on the project include JFQ Construction Inc. of Albuquerque; San Bar

Construction Corp. of Albuquerque; and E2RC (Integrated Environmental Construction Engineering) of Bernalillo, N.M. Between 20 and 30 workers are on the job daily on Highway 41. Mountain States Constructors is currently removing and replacing drainage structures that cross NM 41. Its crews also are working to make vertical curves safer. A vertical curve is a sharp drop in the roadway. The curve can be designed to be more gradual, but in the case of Highway 41 the plan is to remove the vertical curves for safety purposes. South Orient Rail Line Rehabilitation Nears Completion RAIL from page 1

In addition to the current track rebuilding, work is planned to reconstruct the Presidio-Ojinaga International Rail Bridge, which was destroyed a decade ago. One of five border rail crossings between Texas and Mexico, it has remained closed. The $9.2 million cost of construction for the new bridge is being provided by the operators of the state-owned rail line. A portion of the International Rail Bridge south of the levee at Presidio burned to the ground in 2008. A second section of the International Rail Bridge north of the levee at Presidio suffered the same fate in 2009. The years have passed, but the important of the structure has not been dismissed. “The bridge will be reconstructed by Texas Pacifico,” said Williams. “Construction should begin in late 2018 or early 2019. The cause of the fire was determined to be arson. There was no immediate impact, since no freight had moved over the bridge for years, due to the poor track conditions along the line.” Williams also noted that TXPF is coordinating with the connecting railroad in Mexico, Ferromex and governmental agencies in Mexico, as some construction and repairs must be done on that side in order to have complete connectivity between the two countries’ rail systems. The details, however, are unclear at this time. “We understand some work needs to be completed on the Mexico side, just as work is being done on the U.S. side, but we understand it to be similar rehabilitation work to what is being done on the line in the U.S. TxDOT is not involved in that, and does not have information on the scope of that work.” For the rehab work, crews are replacing cross ties, installing ballast, surfacing track and reconstructing grade crossings. All of these tasks are ongoing. The most time-consuming part of the job involves tamping the track to the specified alignment and profile grades. Gil Wilson, rail programs section director, TxDOT rail division, said the condition of the site prior to construction was challenging.

In Texas, anticipation is growing as construction crews rebuild 90 miles of track on the South Orient Rail Line.

“It was an existing railroad line with defective, inoperable components. The work that includes the most site impact is the reconstruction of the grade crossings, including removing existing crossing, excavating soil to subgrade and reconstruction. According to Wilson, crossing excavation depth can vary somewhat from location to location. “The site is excavated down to the ‘hard pan’ where previous compaction and consolidation of fine materials over time has created a rigid surface to reconstruct the crossing on.” To date, weather has not affected the project, which is considered somewhat monotonous, but necessary. “This is routine railroad rehabilitation work,” Wilson acknowledged. “The challenges are minimal.” A total of 770 sq. yds. of dirt and other material will be moved by crews, who are primarily using a tie remover and inserter, spiker, tamper, regulator, backhoe and grapple truck to complete the various tasks required to complete the assignment. Some of the main materials used during construction include cross ties, grade crossing panels, rails and ballasts. projects to rebuild the stretch of track. The event, hosted by the San Angelo Railway Museum, featured hammers and golden spikes. Local stakeholders and elected officials were given the opportunity to celebrate the next phase of rehabilitation work occurring on the line, and also comment on the remarkable growth in traffic occurring on the line. “The improvements that are being made to the rail line and the reconstruction of the rail bridge will provide future support for the communities and industries in

Texas that rely on deliveries provided by the South Orient Railroad,” said Commissioner Lewis. “Rebuilding the South Orient Rail Line will restore a critical corridor of trade between Texas and our state’s strongest trade partner,” said U.S. Senator John Cornyn. “I’m proud to have worked with TxDOT, USDOT, and my colleagues in Congress to help strengthen cross-border commerce and improve the flow of legitimate trade with Mexico.” U.S. Congressman Will Hurd,

who represents more than 800 mi. of border, more than any other member of Congress, added, “Cross-border trade is the lifeblood of many areas in my district. I’m proud to have worked with TxDOT to secure funding for the South Orient Rail Line, so that this vital corridor can remain a pillar of Texas trade, benefiting the border region, West Texas and our state’s economy.” The South Orient Railroad (SORR) is a TxDOT-owned rail facility, roughly 391 mi. in length. SORR extends from San Angelo Junction through San Angelo to Presidio at the Texas/Mexico border. In 2001, TxDOT completed the purchase of the SORR and leased operations to Texas Pacifico Transportation. Under the terms of the agreement, TxDOT became the railroad’s permanent owner, and Texas Pacifico obtained a 40-year operating lease with renewal options. At the time of purchase, train speeds on the SORR were restricted to 10 mph as a result of deferred maintenance by the prior owners, which caused deterioration of the infrastructure. The SORR has one of five rail-border crossings between Texas and Mexico, and one of eight between the United States and Mexico. TxDOT has completed the rehabilitation of 114 miles of the line from San Angelo Junction (near Coleman) to west of Mertzon through several rehabilitation projects which began in the fall of 2009. TXPF has performed additional rehabilitation and routine maintenance independently of the above TxDOT rehabilitation work. The projects have enabled 25 mph speeds from San Angelo Junction, near Coleman, to Sulphur Junction, 11 mi. east of Fort Stockton. They’ve included an additional, mile-long interchange track at San Angelo Junction. The projects are in addition to a $7 million rehabilitation of 72 mi. of track from the Texas-Mexico border to Alpine funded by a federal FASTLANE grant. force compared to a pendular jaw quick hitch. This constant applied working pressure continuously readjusts the wedge, keeping both pins firmly against the quick hitch. Two pressure relief valves operate the wedge, which locks at 1,730 psi and unlocks at 3,455 psi. This ensures the hydraulic circuit is not over pressurized and greatly minimizes wear in the locking area between the coupler and the attachment. A rear lock safety device ensures the wedge does not retract and disconnect the attachment if hydraulic failure occurs, according to the manufacturer. Additional safety features within the XLock coupler allow the operator to connect and disconnect safely from within the cab. When connecting, the X-Lock safety knuckle immediately and automatically engages onto the front pin, which can only be released by the operator. The self-adjusting wedge locks the second pin as soon as the lock switch is deactivated, safely securing the attachment. When disconnecting, the operator unlocks the self-adjusting wedge from the rear pin and unlocks the safety knuckle from the front pin. The coupler is now ready to be removed from the attachment. If the attach-

ment is not fully detached within five to 12 seconds, the coupler will automatically reattach for safety. The auto-lock window time period is customizable. Once disconnected, the safety knuckle reengages and is ready to lock the front pin of the next attachment. During the exchange of attachments, the operator is able to control and monitor the exchange process in the cab through the X-Lock control unit, which features a separate open and close button. This control unit includes a timetable that notifies the operator when the wedge and safety knuckle are open or closed. The system features red and green LED lights as well as a warning buzzer that indicates whether the pairing was successful or not. This heightens operator awareness, helping him or her manage the system and prevent highly hazardous situations by alerting if the attachment is not properly attached. Kinshofer designed the X-Lock coupler to prevent serious accidents on the job site. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has documented numerous incidents, some of which have resulted in fatalities, caused from improperly attached or failing buckets. “Most serious accidents happen within the first five seconds of latching attachments and one loss of life due to equipment or operator error on a job site is one too many,” Martin said. “We developed the X-Lock coupler to prevent such incidents. The step-by-step control and various commands required for the locking and unlocking function makes the X-Lock coupler fail proof, safe and efficient.” The durable X-Lock couplers are made of high-alloy steel and are available for excavators with 2,200- to 220,000-lb. operating weights. Each coupler installs simply and safely, with just one hydraulic circuit and two hydraulic hoses. All parts are enclosed within the system, reducing damage and lessening parts replacement costs. A vertical curve can create problems in seeing traffic ahead. Crews are building embankments to carry the highway over areas of low ground. That will help in creating a safe sight distance on the roadway. Road Reconstruction Equipment on Site Heavy equipment currently in use includes Caterpillar graders, front end loaders, laydown machine (A laydown machine lays asphalt or concrete to pave a road that is fed or will be fed by a dump truck.), steel drums, water truck, reclaiming machine (a reclaiming machine or road reclaimer is an asphalt pavement grinder or a combination grinder and soil stabilizer), and haul trucks. About 74 million tons of asphalt will be applied to the roadway over the course of the Highway 41 project. Recycling of materials will be part of the project. The plan is to reclaim the existing hot mix aggregate course material together and used it in areas that call for subgrade material replacement. As of early December, NM 41 was reduced to one lane with a flagger and pilot car escort through the work zone. Motorists can expect 20-minute delays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Highway Safety Modernization including creation of 6-ft. shoulders will make the highway safer. “No shoulders exist on NM 41, which becomes a problem to the traveling motorist,” said Rosanne Rodriquez,

Also, the highway has become outdated in its design. “The existing roadway has not been rehabbed in 40 years or so,” Rodriguez said. She added that projects are recommended for rehab and reconstruction based on existing conditions of the roadway and failures. Also, traffic has increased on Highway 41. Some residents have expressed concerns that the project’s improvements will attract more truck traffic to the highway. However, NM 41 will remain a mixed-use route for a variety of vehicles. NM 41 is a secondary connection between Santa Fe, N.M., and I-40. U.S. 285 serves as the primary connection. The project is in a rural area, so no noise abatement was required for the work. Also, no impact is expected for homes and businesses in the general area. However, some detours will be used over the course of the project, slowing traffic a bit. Detours will be kept at 3.2 mi. in length for each phase of the project. The detour will be in use 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Meanwhile, the project is moving along well and is ahead of schedule at this point. Work stopped for a winter break at the end of December. With a little more luck, construction will resume fully in the spring. The area receives 2 to 3 in. of snow from January through mid-March. Then snow and cold taper off as spring begins to take hold usually in late March or early April. Museum Displays Old Plank Road Between Yuma, San Diego Arizonans think nothing of a quick weekend drive from Phoenix to San Diego’s beaches in about six hours. But a century ago, that trip could take the better part of two days across primitive roads and nearly impassable sand dunes. Horses were more reliable for traversing sand dunes until enterprising road builders came up with a boardwalk for motorcars in 1915. That’s right. Early adopters of horseless-carriage technology built a road of wooden planks across seven miles of sand west of Yuma in California. Arizona notably did not follow California down the path of building wooden roads. The Plank Road and the Colorado River bridge at Yuma, completed in April 1915, were key steps forward for motorists traveling across the Southwest deserts in the early 20th century. Those advancements also were factors in competition between San Diego and Los Angeles to be the western terminus for a cross-country highway along a southern route. Employee Innovation Helps ADOT Reopen Freeways Faster After asphalt lanes get a rejuvenating seal designed to reduce cracking and extend the life of pavement, an innovation by Arizona Department of Transportation employees allows crews to reopen freeways faster. Using scrap metal, ADOT maintenance workers fashioned what’s essentially a reverse stencil — a diamond-shaped template that keeps the oil-based seal off of white HOV markings within lanes. They also designed a metal arm to lift and transport the template from one HOV diamond to the next. While applying the seal doesn’t affect lane striping, HOV markers within lanes once had to be repainted before a freeway could reopen. In addition to shortening the full closures required to apply the seal, saving the time and money needed to repaint HOV markings adds up to $310 for each diamond. According to Mark Kilian, an ADOT highway operations technical supervisor, using the reverse stencil usually involves

he record-breaking 2018 World of Asphalt Show & Conference and AGG1 Academy & Expo concluded a successful run, March 6-8, with a very positive atmosphere, as attendees and exhibitors conducted business and discussed issues affecting future growth, such as infrastructure funding. Industry experts also shared best practices during well-attended education sessions. The co-located exhibitions were held at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Registered attendance topped a near record of more than 8,300 at the close of the shows, with attendees coming from all 50 states, all 10 Canadian provinces and 50 countries worldwide. Both World of Asphalt and AGG1 hosted a sold-out show floor that broke size records and spanned a combined 174,000 net sq. ft. of exhibits. More than 460 exhibitors, including more than 160 new to the shows, displayed their latest products and technologies for the aggregates, asphalt, and pavement maintenance and traffic safety sectors. Education was an integral component of the event, with attendees purchasing more than 10,000 tickets for the shows’ signature learning programs: People, Plants and Paving Conference from the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) and AGG1 Academy from the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (NSSGA). “This was one of our best events ever that delivered it all for industry professionals: product innovations, focused education and quality

Sukut’s Rick Evans Retires After Long, Distinguished Career Sukut Equipment & Parts’ Rick Evans has had a long, successful career in the construction equipment industry and on Feb. 28, he moved on to his next career chapter — retirement. Evans began his career with Keiser Steel in Fontana, Calif., in 1973 when he was just 18. At that time, Keiser Steel was the biggest steel mill on the West Coast. He was a rising star there from the very beginning. For the first time in the 25-year history of Keiser Steel at that time, he was promoted to an apprenticeship in the mechanics’ department, resulting in a four-and-a-half-year apprenticeship — this promotion occurred after being on the job for only three weeks. Evans worked at Keiser Steel for 10 years until the plant closed down, but he learned a lot over that decade. “It was a great learning experience,” he said. “Keiser had over 900 pieces of equipment and I worked on everything from Caterpillars, to locomotives, to big trucks and cranes.” After a short stint at Tractorland in Moreno Valley as a mechanic, he next moved onto MR Tractor, starting with them in 1985 as a mechanic before moving up to the position he held up to his recent retirement — equipment parts manager of Sukut Equipment & Parts, which was created as a separate division under Sukut Equipment when MR Tractor Sales was purchased in 2012. Over his 45-year career, Evans deftly adapted to changes and he reflected on some of those “We used to do everything by hand using 3 x 5 index cards,” he recalled. “Operations have changed, as well. Today, there are more stringent state regulations, more permits are needed, and there’s an increase in regulatory visits.” While all these have been more time-consuming, he said, they’ve also had a positive effect. “When I first started here, you couldn’t even see the mountains,” he said. “Everyday around 10 a.m. or 11 a.m., a yellow haze would appear from LA. About 15 years ago, that changed, the yellow haze has disappeared.” Evans said he is excited and ready to go and begin the next chapter of his life. He’ll start that by traveling cross-country with his family. “I grew up in Montana,” he said. “I’m looking forward to going back, and building a cabin there.” He plans to “summer in Montana, travel back to California during the colder

NTEA Hosts Annual Work Truck Show, Innovation Awards

he National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) held its annual Work Truck Show in conjunction with the Green Truck Summit on March 6 to 9 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind. Recognized as North America’s largest annual work truck event, fleet managers, truck equipment distributors, upfitters and truck dealers attend the show to meet and network with suppliers and peers while gaining insights into the latest equipment innovations and market trends. The new NTEA Fleet Technical Congress conducted educational sessions throughout the four-day event and provided fleet managers an opportunity to learn about new technologies, as well as business development and management skills. Attendees of the sessions earned International Association for Continuing Education and Training certified continuing education units (CEUs). More than 500 companies presented their products and services throughout more than 500,000 sq. ft. of exhibit hall space. A stand out feature of this year’s show was the number

of significant new product launches, with more than 100 exhibiting companies introducing commercial vehicles and equipment during the event. Among the many announcements was Chevrolet’s new 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD medium-duty trucks available in a wide range of configurations. Ford used the event to launch its updated Ford Transit Connect cargo van with a host of new safety features including its new pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert, a lane keeping system to help drivers avoid lane drift and adaptive cruise control. Hino, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corp., announced its move into larger trucks with the introduction of vehicles in Class 7 to 8 weight segment expected to be ready for delivery in early 2019. In addition, The Work Truck Show Innovation Awards, selected by a panel of trade media editors and truck fleet managers, from a field of more than 150 eligible products highlighted at the show were presented during the event. Award winners included: • CARR, for the company’s new Factory Step, providing safer, more efficient and ergonomic entry and exit access from the Ford Transit full-size • J.W. Speaker Corporation, for its Model 8910 Evolution 2 LED headlight with an integrated temperature sensing lens heater to melt snow and ice • Workhorse, for its W-15 Pickup Truck, the first OEM offered plug-in, battery-electric, range-extended pickup, with a 2,200 pound payload and 5,000 pounds of towing capability, the truck will be available in 2019

PacWest Announces New Dealership in Spokane, Wash. PacWest Machinery has announced the purchase of land in Spokane, Wash., for the construction of a new dealership facility. Beginning in the second quarter of 2019, PacWest Machinery customers in eastern Washington and northern Idaho will be supported and serviced from the new dealership at 3515 North Sullivan Road, Spokane Valley, Wash., just minutes away from the company’s current location.
