Employment and Skills at West End Gate

Jobs For Everyone At its peak, West End Gate will employ huge numbers of people, sustaining hundreds of jobs during its construction. We are now one year into our four year Employment and Skills Plan. During this time we have created 24 local jobs and 37 local apprenticeships, surpassing our S106 targets. We have also delivered 16 bespoke work placements and run 35 events to inspire local people into a career in construction. We are committed to diverse recruitment and work with a range of worked with community groups, from young people starting out in their career at Westminster College to those looking to change career from the armed forces through BuildForce UK. We passionately believe that housebuilding offers a challenging career for talented people and Berkeley is delighted to be working with Westminster City Council to facilitate and nurture these opportunities.

Case Study 1 DIRECT APPRENTICESHIPS FOR SCHOOL LEAVERS AND CAREER CHANGERS We take on a cohort of direct apprentices every year through the Berkeley Group Apprentice Programme. Three of this year’s apprentices are based at West End Gate. We immerse them into the business with networking events, rotations and bespoke training programmes with some of the best training providers in the UK. We also run a graduate programme which lasts two years and is designed to equip graduates with all the tools needed to have a successful career in property development. Currently, nearly 20% of our project team are graduates or apprentices.
