Delivering Oriel in Camden

Dear neighbour,

We are writing to update you on Oriel, a world leading centre for eye care, research and education that is in development at the St Pancras Hospital site.

We have a construction management plan (CMP) to guide our plans and explain the next steps.

What is Oriel?

Oriel is the joint initiative between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity that will see services move from Islington to a new, integrated centre on part of the current St Pancras Hospital site.

Our vision is to create an environment for innovation to flourish, inspiring improvements in people’s sight. The new centre will be accessible and flexible, enabling us to deliver the highest quality clinical care and attract and retain the best ophthalmic scientists, educators and clinicians.

Our application to build the new centre was approved by Camden Council in August 2022 and we recently received final NHS and government approval that turns Oriel from a proposal into a reality.

Oriel will deliver world-leading eye health research, education and care services

NOVEMBER 2022

Why are we moving?

The ageing infrastructure of the hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology buildings has made integrating our services and providing world-class clinical, research and teaching facilities increasingly difficult.

By bringing together Moorfields Eye Hospital and the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology in a single location, we will be able to better integrate our services and enhance our collaborative workultimately providing improved care and support for the patients who need us.

The current Moorfields Eye Hospital building on City Road was opened in 1899 UCL Institute of Ophthalmology

What does it mean for you?

Over the coming months, we will begin the work of transforming part of the current St Pancras Hospital site into a worldleading centre for advancing eye health. Throughout the construction phases, we are committed to working closely with our

neighbours and the local communitykeeping everyone informed about the process and working to minimise the impact it has on those around us.

What happens next?

Following a series of virtual and in-person meetings we have now submitted our draft CMP to Camden Council.

If you would like more information on the submitted document please contact us at oriel@conciliocomms.com or call us at 0800 433 2067.

We are committed to continuing to work closely with our new neighbours to minimise future disruption during the delivery of Oriel on part of the current St Pancras Hospital site. As part of the beginning of Phase 1 of construction work Bouygues UK, the preferred contractor, is now on site. Site preparation and enabling works have now began as the site is being prepared for the next phase of the construction to make Oriel a reality.

We want you to be part of the next phase of Oriel
