SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024
Greetings from the group CEO and Chairman of the Board
Operational activities
Comatec’s year 2024 was financially challenging because the generally predicted economic recovery at the beginning of the year did not materialize in the second half. We had to adjust our operations both in Finland and in our international activities. Despite the difficult year, we managed to survive, surprisingly well in some business areas. We look confidently to the future, as we have overcome challenges before.
During 2024, we clarified our organization. We started 2025 with a new divisional model organization. As of January 1, 2025, the operations of Oucons Oy, Rantotek Oy, Comatec Automation Oy, and Comatec Project Services Oy, which were part of the Comatec Group, merged under one management and organization by merging into Comatec Process and Automation Oy. Other Finnish companies in the Comatec Group are Comatec Mobility Oy and Comatec Industrial and Marine Oy. Comatec Poland z.o.o operates in Poland, Comatec Estonia Oü in Estonia, Comatec Sweden Ab in Sweden, and Comatec Engineering s.r.l in Romania.
Our foreign subsidiaries are closely integrated into the divisional structure, with the companies in Poland and Sweden in the Mobility division, and the companies in Estonia and Romania in the Industrial and Marine division. Comatec now operates through three strong divisions, each with its own clear areas of expertise.
The new strategy period for 2025–2027 has just begun. The aim of the new strategy is to raise the company’s level of expertise to meet increasingly demanding customer requirements.
Company values and customer promise
The company’s values have been confirmed as customer satisfaction, continuous development , profitability, growth orientation, and cooperation. With the help of the values that guide our thinking and working methods, we achieve even better results with our customers.
The core of our customer promise:
• Expertise and experience
• Quality, reliability and responsibility
• Flexibility and scalability
• Wide range of services
We are committed to meeting our customers’ expectations in the future as well. Our daily work is guided by a clear vision – we want to be the first choice as a partner in industrial design and consulting services.
Comatec Group CEO, President
Aulis Asikainen (on the left) and Chairman of the Board of Insinööritoimisto Comatec Oy Kari Ollila.

Our goals for the new strategy period are encapsulated in ensuring success through the “Comatec Way ” together with our customers and staff, but also as a more unified Comatec. We make the goals a reality together – we succeed together and are more together. We listen, understand, and act every day to fulfill our promises. We develop and grow with the changing world. Our staff is our most important resource. By investing in skills and expertise, we will also achieve results in the future.
The impact of our design work is long-lasting
The expectations of our stakeholders regarding the responsibility of our operations have increased in recent years.
The environmental impact of investment goods can be influenced by design. Therefore, we consider the environment in product and service design and help our customers make sustainable choices. With our services, we support the use of
cleaner technology in industry. With our expertise, we can help our customers achieve the responsibility goals they have set for their own business. We want to build a more sustainable industry through modernizations and innovations related to our field, increasing our customers’ carbon handprint.
A comprehensive examination of our own operations from the perspective of corporate responsibility and reporting corporate responsibility to our stakeholders is new to us. We are developing both our operations and communications to meet regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations by reporting for the first time in accordance with European VSME recommendations. This will assist our customers who report according to ESRS standards and prepare us for the requirements of the CSRD directive, keeping in mind our growth in the coming years.
With our expertise, we can help our customers achieve the responsibility goals they have set for their own business.

Responsibility is reflected in how we treat each other and our stakeholders, and how we operate as part of society.
Ethically good conduct is our way of working, which is visible in our daily work at all levels and in all tasks of the organization. The focus is always on complying with local, applicable laws, industryspecific regulations, and the group’s own ethical guidelines at the individual level as an employee, in customer work as a provider of design and consulting services, and as an employer.
Our operations face financial, strategic, and operational risks, some of which are related to sustainability. Due to the nature of our operations, Comatec’s own activities do not involve significant environmental risks.
To manage business risks, we have an ISO 9001-certified operating system with policies and work instructions. Risk management in line with both business and sustainability themes is carried out as part of daily management work.
In our ethical guidelines that guide our daily operations, we have committed to respecting
and promoting internationally recognized human rights, such as the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the principles of the core conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO) in all our activities. Additionally, we adhere to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in our operations.
Responsibility management
At Comatec, the responsibility for our own operations lies at the operational level with the Group Administration. Each member of the Extended Management team is responsible for incorporating responsibility into all our activities.
Sustainability initiatives and practices are mainly developed at the group administration level as part of daily operational development. This work is coordinated by the Sustainability Officer, who reports to the Group Board.
According to Finnish accounting law, the Group Board and the CEO are responsible for sustainability reporting.
Both our Group Board and the boards of our division companies have sufficient expertise in sustainability matters, enabling them to assess Comatec’s impacts, risks, and opportunities related to sustainability.
Practices for transitioning towards a more sustainable economy (B2)
Code of Conduct and quality operations guide our practices
Our sustainability practices are defined in our ethical guidelines, the Code of Conduct, which was updated in 2024. The guidelines have been approved by the Group Board and their implementation is monitored in management reviews according to our quality operations system twice a year.
According to the ethical guidelines, we operate resource-efficiently within our business framework, making choices that reduce our environmental and climate impacts. In procurement and matters within our sphere of influence, we promote more sustainable choices for the environment. This means that:
• We make our purchases according to the principles of responsible procurement, based on need and market conditions in accordance with good practice.
• We tender our purchases according to procurement guidelines to ensure cost-effectiveness.
• We require our suppliers of goods and services to commit to similar sustainable, responsible business practices and to comply with good business practices and legal obligations.
Monitoring of own operations and continuous improvement model
Our operations have long been guided by an ISO 9001-certified quality operations, Operating System. Our operations in accordance with the ISO 9001:2015 standard are partially evaluated annually.
Our long-term partner, independent certification and risk management expert DNV,

In addition to external audits, we conduct annual internal audits in our various business operations, and for example, top management reviews are held twice a year.
The foundation of our quality operations is continuous improvement. It is guided by the quality development and audit working group, which also handles customer feedback. We at Comatec want to improve our operations and serve our customers even better.
We assessed customer satisfaction in our operating countries in various ways, considering local practices and the scope of business, including surveys and as part of regular customer interactions. Based on the results of the customer satisfaction survey, we are doing committed and professional work throughout the group.

Environmental metrics
TAULUKKO B3:2
Energy and greenhouse gas emissions (B3)
We measure and strive to reduce the negative environmental impact of our operations. We have been assessing our environmental impact by calculating the greenhouse gas emissions of our operations in Finland, the largest country in terms of revenue and personnel, for a couple of years. For the first time, we calculated the greenhouse gas emissions of all Comatec Group countries for the year 2024 according to the GHG Protocol for Scopes 1–2, and for Scope 3 for significant items.
The Scope 3 significant items defined for the assessment included incoming and outgoing transportation, business travel, and commuting between home and workplace. From purchases and services, office supplies, healthcare, telecommunications, cleaning, and coffee supplies were included, as well as office furniture and IT equipment from fixed assets. In Scope 3, waste calculation included waste generated by our own construction at our largest site. However, there are uncertainties in the calculation, especially regarding consumption data related to facilities and emissions from waste.
The calculation was carried out using a calculation tool produced by the Finnish Chamber of Commerce. Since the sizes and personnel numbers of the operating locations and countries vary significantly, we report energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions at the group level for the time being.
Currently, Comatec Group does not have set emission reduction or environmental targets. However, we are developing processes for identifying and measuring our own emissions to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the ways we can impact our environmental footprint in the future.

Direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions
As an expert organization, our direct environmental impacts are minimal. Our negative impact on the environment consists of electricity and heat consumption, business travel, commuting between home and work, service purchases, and procurement.
Our energy consumption mainly comes from the electricity, heating, and cooling of our own and rented facilities. Since 2023, we have been using 100% carbon-neutral electricity with a European Guarantee of Origin in Finland. Guided by the energy audit conducted in 2023, we have continued to transition to low-emission LED lighting when renovating our owned facilities in Tampere. At the group level, we ensure the suitability and efficiency of our facilities – as the number of staff changes and remote work becomes more common, we have reduced the size of our offices, thereby reducing our greenhouse gas emissions.
Our carbon footprint was 1.77 tCO₂e / per person per year. The Scope 1–2 categories account for 12% of all our operational carbon dioxide emissions. The majority, 88%, of our CO₂ emissions come from business travel, procurement, and services, as well as commuting between home and workplace, which are reported in the Scope 3 category. Business travel accounts for 49% of our annual CO₂ emissions.
The carbon intensity of our business was 21.6 tCO₂ per million euros in 2024.
Water (B6)
Due to the nature of our business, our water consumption is very low, and it is not possible to measure it with the current facility providers. Our offices are in urban office buildings where there is no individual measurement of water consumption.
Our water usage consists of the daily water use of office workers. Based on our estimates, approximately 2.8 tm³ of water were used in our facilities in 2024.
Resource use, circular economy and waste management (B7)
Due to the nature of our business, we produce very little waste in office work, and it is not possible to measure it with the current facility providers. Our offices are in buildings where there is no individual measurement of waste amounts.
In our offices, we generate household-type waste, which is sorted according to local guidelines, and we recycle all waste where it is locally possible. We properly recycle all obsolete electronic waste with the help of local partners.

I appreciate the hobby opportunities supported by the workplace. Doing activities together improves internal relationships and provides an opportunity to get to know each other genuinely and personally.
Workforce (B10) – Remuneration, collective bargaining and training
At Comatec, the size of the salary is based on personal agreement with the employer in all the countries where we operate. Wages are higher than the statutory minimum wage in those operating countries where a minimum wage is defined.
So far, we do not report the gender pay gap at the group level. In Finland, the country with the largest business operations and number of employees in the group, the overall pay gap between men and women is about 12%. In the most demanding design tasks, there are quantitatively fewer women than men. In corporate administration tasks, 54% of the entire administrative staff are women.
Comatec Reward
The goal of the Comatec Reward employee bonus is to encourage the entire staff to achieve
good performance, initiative, and customer satisfaction. In 2024, we rewarded a total of 63 employees at the group level based on good performance and customer feedback.
Long careers
Thanks to our diverse operations, we can offer our staff a variety of challenging tasks that provide opportunities for professional development. As a result, we have long careers at our company. We annually reward our long-term employees based

on 10 and 20 years of service with the Suomen Yrittäjät (entrepreneurs of Finland) staff merit badges and additional paid leave days. In 2024, service year recognitions were awarded to a total of eleven employees in Finland.
Collective agreements
Our employees in all the countries we operate in have the right to organize and belong to unions relevant to their professions. The methods of organization vary according to local laws and practices.
In Finland, we apply the SKOL YTN Collective Agreement for Senior Employees in the design and consulting sector to all our employees. Employees of our subsidiaries in Sweden, Estonia, Poland, and Romania are not covered by collective agreements due to local practices.
In Finland, we have a long tradition of regular dialogue between employer and employee representatives, which takes place in the cooperation negotiation committee, where both employer and employee representatives are present.
Training and skills development –Comatec Academy
We want the entire Comatec Group to be a workplace where people enjoy long careers. We are committed to developing our entire staff so that everyone can work in a role that matches their potential on various career paths. At the same time, we encourage everyone to develop skills in areas needed in a changing world.
Continuous skill development is an important factor in workplace well-being and an absolute requirement for maintaining competitiveness and meeting customer demands. Continuous development is one of Comatec’s core values.
We invest in skill development strategically and systematically through Comatec Academy, which offers all Comatec employees diverse support for their skills, their management, and advancement. Available are in-person training, blended learning, online training, webinars, and support for orientation, tutoring, networking, and skills management.
In 2024, our staff in various countries participated in a total of 417 formal training events. We do not currently report employee-specific training hours by gender.
