The word on potential mandatory workplace vaccines for coronavirus came down from the Biden administration two weeks ago. The impact of that order in Fort Lupton City Hall came down during a Sept. 14 study session. Human Resources Director Laura Howe said the rules don’t apply, even though Fort Lupton employs more than 100 full-and part-time employees, plus seasonal ones. The reason is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is in charge of enforcing the order. “OSHA has no status on us,” she told council. “I spent a long time looking at the requirements. As soon as I found out it didn’t apply, I stopped.” The City and County of Denver and the federal government require vaccines for employees. Howe said the city of Pueblo is paying $500 to vaccinated workers. The city of Fort Lupton has 165 total employees. A bit more than half, 90 to 95 of them, are on full time. Howe told council employees in the public safety and public works departments have higher non-vaccination rates than other segments of city employees. Library news In other business, council has a copy of a memorandum of understanding between it and the Fort Lupton Public & School Library. In it, the library said it plans to close on its new location near Dale’s Pharmacy on SEE VACCINE, P4
At the Fort Lupton High School homecoming celebration, some of the alumni from 1981 came to bring back some PHOTO BY BELEN WARD memories, have some chili and tour the school with Principal John Biner.
