The Fort Lupton Recreation Center features an Abrir misting system in its shade structure, the first of its kind to be installed in the United States.

For Mayor Zo Hubbard, you can point to Fort Lupton’s progress from a small town into a city about 20 years ago when the city’s recreation center opened.
“And at that time, we didn't even have aspirations of having something like this 20 years ago, when we built this facility," she said. "We didn't know how much Fort Lupton would grow, both in population and as a community.”
So it says a lot about how far the city has come when the city reopened the center in September 2024 – refurbished, renewed and sparkling.
"Seeing this growth, and offer it as an amenity to our citizens and visitors is very exciting. It helps attract new people, and hopefully the right kind of people who are healthy, good for our community, and will be active because that's what it takes: active citizens.”
Monty Schuman, Fort Lupton recreation director, said it has been about a 2½-year process from planning to breaking ground to opening the doors.
“This is the community's building, and I have been given the chance to be part of it, so it’s really exciting to see that come to fruition and were able to get it completed,” Schuman said.

“This is probably the last big expansion we can do because criteria required for this lot. We can't go farther west, north or east. This completes this project, and it's an unbelievable facility."
Schuman said the new addition to the building cost $12 million. It increases the square footage to just over 60,000 square feet, making it a full-fledged Recreation Center. Adolfson and Peterson Construction were selected as this project's construction managers and general contractors.
With Fort Lupton growing and the recreation center becoming popular destination in the community, the city and contractors pulled out the shovels in September 2023 to add a gymnasium and swimming pool as part of a Community Park project. A year later, the expansion has been completed.
During its renovation, a specific section of the recreation center remained open so the community could continue to use the facility. The project's first phase, the renovation of the Community Park attached to the recreation center, was completed this summer.
