BRISBANE BOYS’ COLLEGE

2025 TARTAN SPECTACULAR AND QLD STATE PIPE

BAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Headmaster’s Welcome Mr Andre Casson

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2025 Queensland State Pipe Band Championships at Brisbane Boys’ College. This event, aptly named the Tartan Spectacular, celebrates the rich Scottish heritage that is deeply woven into the fabric of our school community. These traditions are of particular significance for us as in 2025 we celebrate the 85th anniversary of our wonderful Pipe Band.

For 85 years the skirl of the bagpipes echoing across our campus have been a wonderful reminder of our proud traditions. Our internationally acclaimed Pipe Band continues to uphold the highest standards of musical excellence, and today, we gather to honour Scotland’s vibrant culture through music,

dance, and camaraderie. As the great Scottish poet Robert Burns once said, “The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men gang aft agley,” reminding us that despite our plans, it is our spirit and determination that truly define us.

I commend all participants for their hard work and commitment in preparing for this festival. May the spirit of friendly competition and shared passion for the Scottish arts inspire us all.

To our visitors, I extend a warm welcome to the College. Immerse yourselves in the festivities and join us in celebrating the enduring legacy of Scotland here at BBC.

THE CLAN DONALD TRUST FOR THE GAELIC PERFORMING ARTS

SPONSORS OF THE 2025 INTERNATIONAL

GAELIC PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAMME

The ancient Macdonald Lords of the Isles, who for over 400-years ruled an independent Gaelic Kingdom on the West Coast and Isles of Scotland, saw it as their responsibility to support, encourage, and develop the Gaelic culture in all its forms. The Lords of the Isles built churches, supported monasteries, established centers of higher learning, were patrons of dancing, clarsach playing (the traditional Gaelic harp), poetry and, of course, piping. For more than thirty years, the Clan Donald Lands Trust, a Scottish charity located on the Isle of Skye, had carried on this important responsibility.

Today, the Clan Donald Trust for the Gaelic Performing Arts has the great honour of taking over responsibility for the delivery of this important international programme. The Clan Donald Trust is among the most active supporters of the Gaelic arts throughout the world.
