The cornerstone to the success of the organisation for 2024 is staff retention!
Building a robust relationship between employer and employee is crucial for the success of any organisation when labour supply is this low.
It is important to note that all good relationships must be built on trust, mutual respect, open communication, and fulfilling expectations from both sides. Employers often feel that they have to earn trust, when giving a job with pay and benefits is in itself trusting an employee. That is to say that Employers trust first, can workers try to start at a position of mutual respect and trust? It’s just good manners.
We understand that employers provide work, compensation, and hopefully a conducive environment. In return, employees contribute their skills, time, and effort toward achieving the organisation's goals. When one side does not hold up their end of a bargain, relationships start to fail and communication and listening is key.
Clear communication, fair treatment, and opportunities for growth and development are essential components to ensure a healthy and productive work environment. Let’s make this a priotity in 2024!
Investing in building a strong relationship can lead to increased job satisfaction, higher employee retention, and ultimately, better business outcomes.
By fostering a collaborative and supportive environment, both parties can work together effectively to achieve shared goals and contribute to the organisation's success.

Hosting The NSW Treasurer
Helping our local business community stay informed about economic policies, financial trends, and government initiatives
The Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) recently had the honour of hosting the Hon. Daniel Mookhey MLC, Treasurer of New South Wales at the Canterbury Leagues Club on the 23rd of February.
Over 170 industry leaders, business owners, and entrepreneurs gathered to meet and engage with the Treasurer, who shared valuable insights and facilitated discussions over important issues within the New South Wales economic landscape
Focussing on current challenges, fiscal policies, and future projections that are crucial for strategic business planning, the Treasurer offered fresh perspectives on the Government’s efforts to support business growth and innovation.
The CBCC has always championed collaboration and open communication between policymakers and local business communities to help create policies that support economic resilience and growth, and this event was full of such enriching and enlightening conversations.
Increasingly, to make these [financial] predictions, where goes NSW, so goes Australia. And increasingly, where goes Western Sydney, so goes New South Wales.
~ the Hon. Daniel Mookhey MLC, Treasurer of NSW
Amongst the topics that the Treasure touched on during the event, of particular note is that the Government is now looking to shift its funding focus towards the NRL and into the suburban and community areas.
In fact, the discussions were so intense, we could still hear attendees talking outside the event as the event ended!

Shaping Tomorrow's Leaders
On February 21st, from 10 am to 2 pm, CEO for a Day! unfolded that inspired young minds with a glimpse into leadership and entrepreneurship. This initiative by CBCC brought together students from Alnoori Muslim School, Greenacre, NSW and Liverpool Boys High School for a day filled with learning, exploration, and personal growth.
During the day, interactions with Michael Everett from MWLP shed light on one student's inquisitive approach towards entrepreneurship, especially in the realm of beekeeping and honey production.
MIND Architecture Founder, Dima Istambouli highlights the importance of emotional intelligence and leadership skills in achieving success. A particularly inspiring moment was the interaction with Councillor Peter Camilleri, who shared his journey from a migrant to a managing director of a renowned engineering company.
Mark Burgess, CEO & Managing Director of QuickStep Group, celebrated the curiosity and engagement of participating students, particularly noting their interest in STEM fields.
The day served as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the students at Liverpool Boys High School. Mrs. Gail Tucker, the Careers Adviser at the school, expressed profound gratitude for the support and opportunities provided to the students, many of whom face significant challenges.
The initiative stands as a pillar of support for these youth, offering them a platform for personal and career development that they might not have access to otherwise.
The feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive, with students expressing gratitude for the life lessons learned and the perspectives gained.
The program taught them about the nuances of leadership and entrepreneurship and encouraged them to live their lives with intention, love, and faith over fear.
As we look forward to the next "CEO for a Day" event on 8th May 2024, we invite members to register for the upcoming term. This initiative continues to be a cornerstone in empowering the next generation of leaders, offering them the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to pursue their dreams and make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
Join us in this journey of empowerment and leadership and help shape the future of our young leaders.

Oran ParkBreaking barriers: Symposium maps pathways to boost disability employment
In February, SSI spearheaded an employment symposium at Western Sydney University’s new Bankstown campus.
This collaborative effort, supported by event partners Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce, Jobs Australia, and the National Disability Services, marked a significant step towards reshaping the landscape of economic participation for people with disabilities
Pathways to possibilities
The symposium, aptly named Pathways to Possibilities, brought together sector leaders and those with lived experience for a clear goal - to identify
areas for improvement in the economic participation of people with disabilities and translate insights into actionable strategies
Collaborative efforts to tangible change
The day highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration, creating an environment where diverse voices, particularly those with lived experiences, were amplified The symposium served as a platform to air hard truths and discuss innovative
ideas, fostering a supportive atmosphere that encouraged open dialogue and creativity
From insights to actions
Beyond the discussions, the focus remains on translating the insights, data, and personal stories into tangible actions that drive substantive change
A comprehensive outcomes report is in the works, poised to serve as a guiding roadmap for future initiatives. This report will also spark broader conversations that extend far beyond the symposium
Foundations to Possibilities Pathways Program
Landscape Construction School-based
In an inspiring leap towards shaping the future of young minds, ANATE Trades has unveiled its Foundations to Possibilities Pathway Program, targeting Year 10-12 students with a keen interest in the landscape construction industry. This pioneering initiative has warmly welcomed participants from two local schools within the Canterbury-Bankstown area: Hoxton Park High School and Bass High. The program is designed to lay the groundwork for students,
equipping them with the foundational skills required to thrive in landscape construction and to transition into employment opportunities with ANATE's industry partners. The visit to ANATE Trades' site was nothing short of exciting Students, brimming with enthusiasm and an unquenchable thirst for
knowledge, embarked on their first hands-on experience in the field. This initial exposure not only served as an eyeopener but also ignited a spark among the participants, showcasing the tangible impact of their soon-tobe-acquired skills in real-life scenarios
The day was planned to ensure that every student could engage, ask questions, and visualise the project that they will be working on over the next five weeks. This transformative program has been made possible through the generous funding of the Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP), highlighting the collective commitment to empower youth with skills and opportunities for their future. ANATE Trades is at the forefront of youth initiatives, offering pathways to employment that are both innovative and inclusive. We have invited several industry partners and community members to join us in this endeavor, to support and collaborate in our mission to support the future workforce.

Nation-leading Business Charter provides a big change for small business
Tuesday, 20 February 2024
Editor’s note: Image and vision available here: https://we tl/t-XSAvuPmEJB
The NSW Government has delivered on another election commitment for small businesses across the State with the launch of the Charter for Small Business
The Charter gives small business owners a seat at the table and a genuine say in the way government supports businesses across the State. The Charter commits to a stronger partnership with small business and sets out the key principles and actions on the way which the NSW Government will work on with the sector.
The Charter for Small Business is the first of its kind in Australia and reflects the economic and social value that small businesses bring to NSW.
The NSW Government has undertaken extensive stakeholder engagement with peak industry bodies and community organisations to ensure the Charter for Small Business reflects the needs of businesses.
The Charter for Small Business includes six key principles and commitments to support its implementation and application in NSW:
1. Clear and strong focal point to support small business to start, grow and thrive.
2 Stronger engagement on new policy and regulation
3 Listen and respond to red-tape and other pain points
4. Boost Government procurement from small businesses.
5. Introduce and report on metrics and identify opportunities for supporting Small Business policy, regulatory and economic settings.
6. Deliver key actions and commitments to timeline.
The Charter for Small Business closely follows on from the Government’s launch of the Service NSW Business Bureau, which is a key source of advice and personalised support for small business
The Service NSW Business Bureau will oversee the Charter for Small Business, to ensure its commitments and actions benefit the sector.
There are more than 850,000 small businesses in NSW which make up 97 per cent of all businesses in the State. NSW small businesses employ 1.7 million people, which is around 43 per cent of the State’s private sector workforce.
For more information about the Charter for Small Business and the Action Plan, please visit: www.nsw.gov.au/charter-for-small-business
Minister for Small Business Steve Kamper said:
“Having worked in the private sector for more than thirty years, I understand how important it is to work with business owners to make being in business easier.”
“The Charter for Small Business is a nation-leading agreement which reflects our commitment to work in lockstep with small businesses across NSW to inform our policies and programs ”
“We don’t want businesses getting stuck in the mud with government transactions, red tape and paperwork. Every delay costs time and money, two things small businesses can’t afford.”
“People in NSW can confidently count on the NSW Government to support our business environment and help small businesses to navigate compliance obligations.”
Business NSW CEO Daniel Hunter said:
"Business NSW continues to welcome the Minister’s support for small business and positive engagement with SMEs on initiatives like procurement reform, the Service NSW Business Bureau and now the Charter for Small Business.
“Our members often tell us that managing government permitting and form-filling is one of the most challenging tasks for their business.
“We want government to not just to listen but to respond to and address red-tape pain points. We believe the new Charter for Small Business will work towards addressing this issue
“The aim should be to reduce businesses’ need to access concierge services to navigate processes because the processes themselves are becoming more straightforward.
“The Business Bureau - which Business NSW supported when it was launched in October last yearcan build on the best-in-class products from Service NSW, which did so much for NSW during the tough times of Covid."
