CEO MESSAGE STANDING WITH OUR BUILDERS
The construction industry is collapsing under pressure and it shows. ASIC data confirms that construction accounts for nearly 1 in 3 business insolvencies nationwide, making it the most atrisk sector in Australia. Local builders many of them family-run and community-embedded are walking away not from failure, but from a system that no longer supports them.
Here at CBCC across Sydney South West, we are witnessing this surge firsthand. Wage increases, superannuation hikes, and soaring material costs have collided with outdated tax and compliance frameworks. It’s unsustainable.
Later this month, CBCC will meet with the NSW Planning Minister to advocate for immediate reforms. We’re calling for targeted tax relief, a reimagining or abolition of payroll tax, and the recognition that PAYG withholding already serves as a revenue stream. Why are we punishing employers for providing jobs?
Builders aren't asking for handouts. They’re asking for a chance to breathe, to compete, and to continue building the housing and infrastructure this state so urgently needs.
