“Steel Magnolias” at the Alcazar

The Alcazar Theatre, 4916 Carpinteria Ave., will screen “Steel Magnolias” on Sunday, May 12, at 3 p.m. in sun. celebration of 30 years since the film’s release. Starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts, “Steel Magnolias” is a heartwarming story of life, love and loss in a small Louisiana parish. “Raiders of the Lost Ark” at the Alcazar
The Alcazar Theatre, 4916 Carpinteria Ave., will screen the 1981 film “Raiders of the Lost Ark” on Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. Harrison Ford plays archaeologist Indiana Jones, who battles a group of Nazis searching for the Ark of the Covenant. The top-grossing film in 1981, “Raiders” was nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, and won six. Directed by Steven Spielberg, “Raiders” was written by Lawrence Kasdan from a story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman. Tickets cost $7 and are available online at thealcazar.org.

Artists Studio Tour
The Lynda Fairly Carpinteria Arts Center, 855 Linden Ave., will host the 13th annual Artists Studio Tour on Mother’s Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 11-12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thirty-one Carpinteria and Summerland artists will open their workspaces in a free, selfguided tour. “A Monster in Paris” at the Alcazar
The Food Liaison is sponsoring a free showing of the animated film “A Monster in Paris” at the Alcazar Theatre, 4916 Carpinteria Ave., on Saturday, May 11, at 3 p.m. It’s 1910, and Raoul is a Parisian delivery man by day and scientist by night who is determined to brainstorm an important new invention. With the help of his friend Emile, a cinema projectionist with women on the brain, Raoul attempts an experiment in a greenhouse that has an unexpected side effect—a tiny flea has suddenly expanded until it’s seven feet tall. The enormous flea gets loose and it’s not long before word is out that a monstrous bug is haunting Paris.
