North Portsea Island Scheme Project Update Spring 2022 We are returning for the next wave of construction! After pausing all work close to the sea during the winter to protect overwintering birds, we are excited to return to commence work at Eastern Road from April 2022.

As construction work will be moving further south along Eastern Road, the Langstone Harbour Viewing car park will be closed from Tuesday, 15th March 2022 until autumn 2023, when phase 4 of the scheme is expected to be complete. The path along the coast between the Andrew Simpson Watersport Centre and the Langstone Harbour Viewing Car Park will also remain closed, a diversion is in place (see map).

The North Portsea Island Scheme covers a total of 8.4 km of coastline from Tipner through to Milton and is being delivered in 5 phases. Phase 4 commenced in autumn 2020, covers 2.4 km of seafront, from Kendall’s Wharf to Milton Common and is planned to be completed in September 2023.

Work around the Kendall’s Wharf site included raising the road level and building an earth embankment and a timber cladded steel sheet pile wall. This was undertaken between November 2019 and October 2020.
