I have been with Coastal Hospice Volunteer Services for about five months now. I had no idea what I was getting myself intoreally! It did take a hot minute to get all of the "do this" & "don't do that" things under control
Coming to work for Hospice seemed like a place that I was destined to be, especially since I have always been more apt to help others than to help myself. Landing in the Volunteer Services department couldn't be a better fit

To work with such a wonderful group of volunteers has been amazing. For starters, the welcome I received from everyone really warmed my heart and it has made me realize there are some really 'good' people in the world. Their continued support for what 'we' do is beyond compare. From dropping what they are doing to pick up the certificate and military blanket for a military veteran patient who may have limited time and being USA proud to perform the "We Honor Veterans' service for them and their family, to allowing themselves to be gently persuaded to take on yet another patient for companionship visits
Volunteer Services have gone through some growth spurts in 2025. Besides getting an entirely new VS team, volunteers have adapted to changes in processes and procedures
To all of you who help to make Volunteer Services look so darned good - Kudos - Thank You - Keep It Up ... we can't do it without you!
Our Monthly Crocheting Club continues to meet on th first Thursday of each month at Stansell House These gatherings bring together volunteers of all skill levels t create handmade items filled with warmth and comfo for our patients

We are deeply grateful to all of the talented volunteers who devote their time and talent to this meaningful work Their creations bring joy and comfort to the patients and families we serve
If you’re interested in joining the group, please contact Volunteer Services we’d love to welcome you!

The holiday season is right around the corner, and we are excited to share several meaningful ways you can get involved. We are currently recruiting volunteers for three of our biggest seasonal initiatives:
Holiday Run – Help us spread cheer and support our mission through this festive community tradition.
Holiday Parade through Delmarva – March with us as we celebrate the season and showcase the spirit of Coastal Hospice.
Angel Appeal – Play a vital role in our annual fundraising campaign that brings comfort and care to patients and families during the holidays and beyond.
If you are interested in joining any of these initiatives, please email us at volservices@coastalhospice.org. We’d love to have you on our holiday team!

The Service Circle is a new monthly Zoom gathering designed to help Coastal Hospice volunteers connect, share experiences, and support one another. Join us on the second Monday of each month from 1:00–2:00 PM to build friendships, exchange ideas, and stay engaged with our mission all from the comfort of home.
For more details or to receive the Zoom link, please contact Volunteer Services.

This month, we are honored to recognize Maggie Miller as our Volunteer Spotlight. Maggie is an instrumental part of our team, serving not only as a dedicated patient care volunteer but also as the leader of our monthly knitting group/club held at the Macky and Pam Stansell House. Through her passion and commitment, she has successfully helped onboard eight new volunteers this year alone, expanding our community of care and support
Beyond these efforts, Maggie also assists at every new employee orientation and frequently lends her time to our Donor Relations and Outreach Departments, making her impact felt across many areas of our organization Maggie’s kindness, leadership, and dedication truly embody the heart of volunteerism, and we are grateful for the countless ways she enriches the lives of patients, families, and fellow volunteers.

Support Families Too – Remember that caregivers may need a listening ear, a break, or encouragement just as much as patients.
A huge thank you to Maggie Miller, Carolyn Post and Jill Blackway for generously giving their time and talents at our Blues on the Bay event on September 24th! Your dedication and support made a wonderful difference, and we are so grateful for all you do to serve our mission.
