Dr. Emanuel is also the brother of Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, IL and Ari Emanuel, Hollywood superagent, as well as author of the recent book, Brothers Emanuel: A Memoir of an American Family. The Sphinx Board of Governors also congratulates Alec Miller, Engineering & Wharton 2013, winner of the 2013 Paul Miller Leadership Award. The award is named in honor and memory of the late Paul Miller, C’83. Despite suffering from dwarfism, Paul Miller excelled in campus and public service leadership as a former Scribe of the Society and Mask & Wig performer. After graduating from Harvard Law School, Paul Miller became a leading author of the Americans with Disabilities Act, distinguished Commissioner on the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, 1994-2004, and until his untimely death in 2010, a law professor at the University of Washington. Alec Miller, (no relation to Paul Miller), won the award for his outstanding contributions as a “leader of leaders” and extensive public service to the University of Pennsylvania community, as Chairman of the Nominations and Elections Committee, amending bylaws to ensure the broadest possible inclusion of under-represented constituencies on the University Council; for his commitment to the complete Penn experience through his leadership of the Engineering Student Activities Council, Engineering Deans’ Advisory Board, and the Penn pre-orientation program, PENNacle; and for upholding high standards of scholarship in the Management and Technology program and as a Wharton Teaching Assistant.
