Peter J. Werth Residence Tower Memorial Garden
Brian Garzon-Romero
In Memory of Andry Evangelista
Andry Evangelista was a sophomore student in the Public Health House Learning Community. His friends described him as outgoing, creating relationships with other students in the community. They wanted to commemorate him with a garden in his memory. The relationships that Andry had with others were special. He helped people within his community, people with diverse backgrounds. Similarly, plants do this as well. Matrix style planting is something that best displays them as plants support one another, creating a balance. Hopefully, more people can follow Andry’s good will and continue to help others.

Project Goal
The aim of this project is to develop a planting plan for the memorial garden at the Werth Tower entrance planter. The planting style being used for this design is called “Matrix Planting”. This consists of three groups of plants: Primary, the main plant that aims to attract people’s attention. Scattered, perennials that are placed around the planter that adds a sort of surprise and diversity. Matrix, a mix of grasses and ground-cover plants that make up the majority of the space. The choice for this design is ideal for the location. Matrix planting is “wild” and can look beautiful from many angles. This can help create a memorable sight from any view; front or back, inside or outside.
