OUR PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE “Are we there YET?” How many times have you heard that question? When there are little children traveling with you I'm sure you heard it more than you wanted to remember. Truth be told, I've asked that question a few times in our travels. However, I am reminding myself that this time of gathering my thoughts together is coming faster that I want to admit and we are almost there. Being President of CAC is drawing to a close fast. Time is getting close to preparing a list of what to pack and buy if you don't have it. Hopefully you will think of the Charity Project for the children at the Shriners Hospital for Children. CAC has collected items for several years, by bringing items from the suggested list located in this newsletter. The box will be in the Registration Area at International at the CAC Table. We'll have our sign out and be looking for you to SMILE for the Camera so that we can add you picture to the CAC Directory. Take the time to give the current officers a thank you for their work this year. They are all volunteers and without them there would be not CAC. Hobo Rally by Marie Efira We rode the storm to reach Blythe, California, but on day 2 the sun was there and kept on shining till the end of the rally. Rally Chairman, Region 12 2nd VP, and CAC member Judy Bechthold did a wonderful job at organizing all the activities. There was so much to do from morning till bedtime, for all tastes and all ages, lots of contests, crafts, workshops, fashion show, story telling, games, indoor and outdoors, flea market and several tours. This year we discovered a bird watcher’s paradise on the other side of the Arizona border, the Cibola National Wildlife Refuge, with thousands of sandhill cranes and Canada geese. The nightly entertainment was provided not only by professional or local performers but by our own members as well. CAC webmaster Ed Efira and Arizona Unit Denny Kuller kept us awake till late with a lively recital of rock and roll and country music. The skid show night confirmed and revealed some serious talents among our members and it was hard to resist laughing at the comical improvisations. Every morning we were greeted at breakfast by our CAC membership directory editor John “JT” Lester in his favorite chef costume, a good start for a good day. The week went fast and Saturday was the true Hobo day with a colorful parade and a float to host the Hobo band and the past Hobo kings and queens. CAC member Richard Schubnell, 2008 Hobo King, ceded his throne to another CAC member, Past Region 12 President and 2009 Hobo King Rick Sharp seen here in his first royal function serving the Hobo stew in the cans traditionally decorated by the guests themselves and I can tell that some of them were very creative. Try this rally next year, you’ll enjoy it.
Florida Rally by Bettie Jones There were some really forward thinking Airstreamers in 1973, especially in Florida during the "Snowbird Season". They planned and have continued to host the Florida State Rally in Sarasota at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds. Occasionally it has been temporarily moved but returns to Sarasota. This is the second largest Airstream Rally after International. Each year there is a theme and "We're Having a Party" seemed to fit the occasion for 2009. As with any Airstream function there is always advanced registration and an area set aside to register in for the Rally and sign up for Tours, Flea Market, Craft and Hobby Show, Golf , and the dinner at the conclusion of the Rally. This Rally is patterned after International and runs very smoothly. The CAC had a spot in the Registration area for the first time at Florida State. This gave us visibility, a chance to receive dues, answer questions and accept new members, plus see those members we don't have a chance to see often- sort of like a Family Reunion CAC style, and, above all, an opportunity to put faces with the names we read about.We signed up 5 new members, collected dues from 8 members, and hosted a Get Together for almost 60 members. There were pictures taken of the members who had not been photographed yet for the CAC Directory. ME M B E R S N E WS “Why should we travel now?” by Marie Efira
In these times of troubled economy, we are concerned about our spending but is it a reason for giving up a way of life we cherish and not hitching up our favorite trailer this summer? Well, I recently read this article called “Why should we travel now” by Maureen Jones in my local newspaper and I would like to share an excerpt with you CAC members. For those of us who still work, Maureen Jones starts by emphasizing “the importance of making sure employees use their vacation time. It’s good for their health, and the company benefits as well.” “Travelers rate their overall health 20 percent better while on vacation. Most travelers not only get three times more deep sleep during their vacations, but they also tend to sleep approximately 20 minutes longer on their return. It takes only one or two days of travel to

reduce blood pressure, heart rate and levels of epinephrine (a stress hormone). Travelers experience a 25 percent increase in performance on vigilance tests after returning from vacation. Travelers 45 or older show a 50 percent increase in performance. These facts have led some forward-thinking businesses to mandate traveling time for their employees. Travel may actually put money in your pocket. According to one study in England, more than one-third of small-business owners claim their best ideas, the ones that lead to business growth, come not at work but during their vacations. Family relationships also strengthen with good travel experiences. Even the anticipation of a vacation can generate an increase in positive emotions about one’s life as a whole, family, economic situation and health.” I guess those positive words are very convincing. Our friend Tracy Logan, a San Diego California Unit Past President, is currently serving in Afghanistan. He and his wife Letty joined the Classic Airstream Club in 2008 at Hobo Rally. Hello All! Hope every one's Christmas and New Year was Merry and Happy! Here we made do in keeping with the spirit. With my Sax I played Christmas Music for every one on the eve of while personel passed on the way to the Mess Hall with my case open I made a Dollar, didnt play too good I guess :-). How was the 2009 Hobo Rally? I am in the far out west region of the country in a province of Farah, sharing a FOB with the Italians.. I am a CERP Pay Agent traveling by aircraft flight like "Indiana Jones" to Kandahar and back. I’m not outside the wire much, maybe cause Im important for Pay for this province that I have dispersed over 800K or that I am too Old :-). We are a little more than half way through. Aug looks like my window for being back stateside. With every thing that is in change here and in the Military. I put in my packet for 2nd time if I do not get accepted for SGM I think Im going to punch out of the system and work for Wal-Mart as a Greeter :-). Well I will get through this deployment First. Letty is hanging in there and doing fine outside but inside as well as I we are waiting for this to be over. Day by Day! All for now. What a wonderful year of traveling and meeting old and new friends! Bozeman does not seem so far away in our rear view mirror and we are almost ready to pack for Madison. I enjoyed very much keeping you informed on the activities of our club and I am looking forward to meeting you all at the CAC annual breakfast. This newsletter and our CAC website are opened to all of you and we welcome your input and comments. Feel free to contact us, send your pictures and your articles.
