Classic Airstream Club Caravan News Good news to report! If you thought you missed the deadline to register for the “Plantations of Southern Louisiana Caravan”, you can be reassured: there are still a few spots available. Our friend John Landry, President of the Louisiana Acadiana Unit, will be leading the caravan “Plantation Homes of Southern Louisiana” from April 18 to May 3, 2012. John is a longtime Classic Airstream Club member and most of you must know him as the director of the WBCCI band. John and his wife Yvette are fun people to be around and so are the co-leaders Lynn and Joyce who led last year a CAC caravan to make us discover the back roads and the coast of South Western Louisiana. Marie and I were on that caravan, we had a fantastic time and we keep unforgettable memories of the adventure. This year we paid our now traditional annual visit to the friendly state of Louisiana and visited some of the amazing plantation homes on the path this caravan will follow. We were impressed by the unique architectures, the magnificent collections of antique furniture, china and sumptuous decorations. We were charmed by the exuberant vegetation, the centenarian oaks heavily adorned with strands of Spanish moss, the scent of the magnolias and the roses. We strongly recommend that you do not miss the opportunity to join John Landry’s “Plantations of Southern Louisiana Caravan” whether it would be your first time in Louisiana or whether you are already familiar with this beautiful state. John and Lynn have a great experience in planning not only caravans but also numerous rallies in their region. They are extremely knowledgeable about Louisiana and its culture. They know where to eat and how to cook the best Cajun food. You can get more information further in this newsletter or by consulting our website http://classicairstream.wbcci.net. The direct link for the caravan is http://classicairstream.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/cac-plantation-caravan.pdf This caravan has been planned and is reserved to the Classic Airstream Club members only. If you are not members yet and read this, it’s easy to join, just fill the membership application in this newsletter or download the application at http://classicairstream.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/cac-membership-application.pdf Because the Classic Airstream Club officers, our caravan leaders and all our helpers are volunteers, annual dues have been at $10.00 for as far as we can remember and, good news, they still are at $10.00. If you are a member, Fall has come and, with the falling leaves, the time to pay our dues. Kay Corder, our dedicated Treasurer, and past President, is standing by. Never too late to renew if you forgot last year. Happy Trails Ed Efira, VP & Membership Chairman

What’s cookin’ down in Louisiana? A new caravan! John Landry (right), leader of the “Plantations of Southern Louisiana Caravan” and Lynn Conner (left), coleader, know how to cook the best Cajun food! Picture taken by Marie Efira at the famous Crawfish rally near Kaplan Louisiana.

Dear Cousin Marie and Ed, I thought that I should tell you what a nice time we had on our “Little Short Caravan” after the International ended in Du Quoin, Il. Gordon and Carol White

were our leaders and did a wonderful job of seeing that

we had absolutely the best overnight spots and a good time while we were in the vicinity. First Stop: Paducah, KY We

grabbed lunch and headed off to Metropolis, Il. to check out the famed

Superman Statue and the town that was made famous by the 15 foot bronze statue of the guy himself standing there- of course we all tried a picture or two with him.

We checked out the souvenir store and there were plenty of choices

to be made for the right article. The ladies had the best time- the guys Dale Bannon and Jimmie did their own thing with Gordon leading the way.

Since Marilyn Brannon and I were keeping up with

Carol- she led us to a wonderful fabric shop, Hancock's of Paducah, and we spent part of

Wednesdday morning there . Lots of beautiful fabric available – by

manufacturer- which kept us looking for just the right piece. Then the magic time had approached to head to the National Quilt Museum- where we really had an eyeful of beautiful quilts- prize winners from everywhere, along with special exhibits. The museum has some 400 quilts in their collection and they are changed on a schedule. Page 1/2 Classic Airstream Club • Marie Efira, Newsletter Editor • Page 6 •

Paducah is located on the Ohio River- which as you know that area has had plenty of rain this year and the river is high. Flood walls have been built over the years and there are murals painted on them telling the history of the town and the many facets of life along the river.

The husbands spent their morning looking at

the river and the activities and the murals. The ladies got a report at lunch of all they had seen. Second Stop: Springfield , Illinois Things got off to a fine start at the Lincoln Home and Visitors Center and the Lincoln Home Historic Site. Then we were off to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library- spending the morning there. Of course we couldn't leave Springfield without seeing the Lincoln Tomb and surrounding grounds- which were really beautiful. Lunch time was looming and there is a very famous hot dog item there called the Cozy Dog, which is in a restaurant that was built in 1946 and has remained a popular eatery for all those years. On Wednesday it was no exception. Lots of people and lots of Cozy Dogs being served there. Saturday finds us all off to New Salem Village-a community that Abe Lincoln lived in for 6 years- that over time became a ghost town and then the Civil Conservation Corps rebuilt it and now it has homes and businesses that were in operation when Lincoln lived there. He actually served as Post Master while he lived there. We did enjoy Ice Cream and fellowship- and good meals while were were out and about and I'm very sure we'd all do the same thing another time- there is a lot of history to read about and a lot of things to see in Springfield. Good time had by all. See you down the road, Bettie Jones PS: On the picture you’ll recognize from left to right Jimmie Jones, Carol & Gordon White, Marilyn Bannon, Bettie Jones and Dale Bannon seated. !
