& WHAT’S ON
Celebrating Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau!

Congratulations to Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau who held a successful event last month to celebrate their official opening in the Atrium of the Clarence Hall.
Representatives from various local organisations and funding bodies heard inspiring speeches from Cyril Teasdale, Chair of the Trustees at the Volunteer Bureau, Kathryn Silk, the High Sheriff of Powys and Clair Swales, CEO of PAVO (pictured).
Each speaker emphasised the crucial role volunteers play in sustaining local groups, activities and supporting the broader community. Working together in partnership is the way forward for voluntary organisations. Together we can achieve so much more!
It was also an opportunity to celebrate the significant funds raised in recent months by volunteers for the Volunteer Bureau, including through the regular Line Dancing classes held at the Hall.
If you’re interested in volunteering in the Crickhowell area, please contact Kerry, Chris or Emma on 01873 812177 or at crickhowellvolunteerbureau@gmail.com!
The Long Way Home
Join us on Friday, 4 and Saturday, 5 October, when Rareseed Productions present an engaging theatre production featuring a combination of drama and live music. Directed by the talented Liz Pearce, the play is a fresh staging of Charles Way’s acclaimed work, The Long Way Home.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Greece, the narrative follows the journey of a recently widowed old woman as she travels from her late husband’s inland hometown to her home of origin, beside the sea. Along the way, she rescues a boy who has been cruelly tied up and brings him up as they traverse the island, encountering a host of colourful characters and situations. The production will be staged in a cabaret-style setting, evoking the ambiance of a Greek taverna. Audience members will be seated at small tables, where they can enjoy drinks, bread, and olives, immersing themselves in the village atmosphere as the story unfolds around them. Tickets £20 – available on the door or from https:// www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-long-way-home-by-charles-way-a-play-with-live-musictickets-1012740523167. The performance is not suitable for children under 10.
Cups on a String!
Transforming Lives for Good is partnering with Riding Lights Theatre Company to tour ‘Cups on a String’ to venues across the UK for 8 weeks in autumn 2024, offering a powerful and moving evening of theatre. On Thursday, 24 October, they’re coming to the Clarence Hall, hosted by St Edmund’s Church.
Alongside the performance of Cups on a String, the evening will provide an opportunity to hear about the work of Transforming Lives for Good charity and how each of us can play a part in supporting the lives of struggling children.

Cups on a String is a warm-hearted and moving new play, developed from remarkable true stories. It’s about playfulness, listening and laughter, and how risk-taking and trust can lead to growth and transformation. Challenging, surprising and beautifully hopeful, the performance blends theatre, live music and digital technology to take you into the heart of the friendship between Heather and Joe, and the profound impact it has on them both.
Tickets have been subsidised and are in the following categories: Adults £10; Concessions £5; Supporters £20. Tickets available from: https:// www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/powys/clarence-hall/cups-on-a-string/ 2024-10-24/19:30/t-dvmdlgm. Age guidance: 14+
