Our restored railings and gate

The Clarence Hall is not only a lovely old building, but it is also a classic example of Victorian architecture and decor.
As phase one of the Hall’s refurbishment is nearing completion, some of the “little gems”, (those artefacts that were removed for safe keeping) are being replaced.
The first is the wrought iron gate and railings to the right of the hall – our new entrance. These items have stood the test of time. They have been taken for granted and, for the most part, been unnoticed for over a hundred years. They have stood up to the weather, avoided going for “metal salvage” during two wars and escaped from the heritage vandals who in the sixties and seventies hideously “modernised” many of our civic buildings.
Now, thanks to Hall Trustee David Jeremiah, they are back in place restored and painted in the original colours – take a look. Notice the nicely worked finials – painted gold – and the natty hinges and the almost total lack of corrosion. Find out more at https://www.clarencehallcrickhowell.org.uk/ourrestored-railings-gate/
Torfaen Arts at Clarence Hall
As part of the popular Crickhowell Open Studios event over the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend, numerous venues across the locality showcased the wonderful art and creativity that the area inspires. The Clarence Hall was no exception!
We were delighted to welcome back Torfaen Arts, a diverse group of both amateur and professional artists living within Torfaen. Their aim is to produce and show art work of exhibition quality and they didn’t disappoint, creating a display of works in a range of mediums. The group’s recipe book ‘The Art of Food’ was also on sale during the exhibition. The book contained over 30 recipes, each one illustrated by a member of Torfaen Arts.
Crickhowell Commemorates

On Thursday, 6 June, the Crickhowell community is invited to join us in commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day. D-Day was the largest naval, air and land operation in history and we remember the bravery of all those who participated. Between 3pm and 5pm, Afternoon Tea & Cake will be served at the Clarence Hall, hosted by the Clarence Hall team and Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau. Everyone is welcome!

From 4.15pm, there will be a Beacon Lighting Event at Crickhowell RFC Ground (Parc Broyd) hosted by Crickhowell Running Club. This is an event for all ages with the Beacon being lit at 9.15pm, in celebration of the ‘light of peace’ that emerged out of the darkness of war. Beacons and lamps will be lit all around the UK at this time as we come together as a nation to pause, reflect and thank.
