Past Projects Men’s Volleyball Social by Dyson Sato On January 27th, 2017, members of our club attended the UH Men's Volleyball game against Grand View University. We enjoyed free stuff, a good game, and each others company. Our team won the match in 3 sets. It was a really good game and it was great to support our club!

by Rochelle Coloma On Friday, January 27, members from Circle K participated in the UH Men’s Volleyball Game social. As we entered the Stan Sheriff Center, we stopped at the Manoa Maniacs table and our members were able to get free UH gear including hats and bags. At the end, UH won all three sets in a row and took the first win against the Grand View Vikings. Overall, we all had a fun time watching the game and seeing the new members of the volleyball team for our first social of the year.

Past Projects Paepae o He’eia

by Jolie Au Once again, our members worked hard to help restore the Paepae o He'eia Fish Pond. This time, instead of passing buckets of coral, we transported and debarked logs from the invasive mangrove trees to be used to build another fish gate and hale along the fish pond boundary. It was a lot of fun and a great work out!

Past Projects Jersey Run by Nikki Miller So I heard about this event sooooooo many times on the radio that the moment I heard about the volunteering event at a meeting, I automatically wanted to sign up. I kinda just wanted to see if I could find Chelsea Hardin AKA Miss Hawaii USA 2016. But sadly we were too early that she was probably still getting all pretty (: But overall the chance to watch young children run and have fun was amazing to help out at. Since I am an Elementary Education major, any event that has to do with kids will always be something I DEFINITELY want to be apart of! I honestly didn’t know what we would be doing for this event. Any role can change on the day of but I was happy with anything. It took me a few seconds to actually realize that I was ACTUALLY ON THE ALOHA STADIUM FIELD!! I was just following the line of everyone else was walking to in my group and then being on the field was a great feeling. Luckily I wasn’t alone. Courtney Choy and Chris Kawaguchi were also with me and it was clear that we were having our own mini party on the field haha which consisted of taking A LOT of photos. And I mean A LOT. A bigger bonus was actually being able to go into the locker rooms and exploring. There was a mini moment where we all ran pretending we were football players going to play! The lockers could fit an entire body inside haha. FUN FACT: They have a small section that shows the turf of the past and what they have now today (odd)

Past Projects Great Aloha Run Packet Pick-Up

by Vanessa Ganir On February 17, 2017, we volunteered at the Great Aloha Run as we were to help with registration and packet pick-up. There were a lot of volunteers from other clubs and from the community that came to help out that night, so our club was given a different task. Instead of helping out with the packet pick-up to give to the runners, we were assigned to pack the packets which included a magazine and several small handouts. We made an assembly line to pack the packets and I think that went really well. We were able to pack and box a lot of packets that night. Volunteering at the Convention Center, we also got to hear Auli’i Carvalho (the voice of Moana) sing “How Far I’ll Go” at the end of our shift which was pretty cool. Everyone in our club was excited as we thought she was singing live under the same roof as us. All of us even tried finding her, but then realized she was actually singing from the concert hall close by.

Past Projects Kahuku Beach Clean Up by Paul Kaneshiro The members of Circle K International participated in a coastal clean up project known as the Kahuku Beach Cleanup. Located at Kahuku Golf Course Beach Park, this monthly service event invites volunteers of all ages to participate in preserving the island’s beauty. Ten of the club’s members enthusiastically took a road trip to the northern part of this island. One thing that I enjoyed the most about the day was the car ride because it gave everyone the opportunity to get to know each other on a more personal level. After our 50-mile road trip, we put on our gloves, gather our equipment, and started our journey. Some of the most interesting items we found included a backpack, blanket, lunch pail, fishing pole, and a toothbrush. Rewarded with a beautiful view and the satisfaction of the progress we made, we topped off the day with lunch at Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck and a refreshing nap on the car ride back home.

Past Projects Ke Kahua O Kualii

before

after

by Emma Pastor On February 19, Circle K at UH Manoa helped restore land at Ke Kahua O Kuali’i. Before it became a restoration site, this place used to be a ranching area. Our first project was to pick up branches, rocks and trash. I was so shocked to find so many trash lying around; I picked up big chunks of glass, wires, pipes, and pots. Another project we did was to clear an area filled with dead trees, grass, vines, and a car. We cut down vines, branches, and tree trunks using sickles, and machetes. It was hard work. We got our clothes dirty and got mosquito bites but I think it was worth it when we saw how much work we put into restoring the land in the end. Our members also got to be apart of a video that Punahou students filmed for PBS Hiki No.

Past Projects Bingo Night by Sean Domingo We were invited by Honolulu Kiwanis to help out at this Okinawan Club Bingo Night. We first started the night passing out snacks to all the members. For the bingo game, we were all placed around the room and just made sure everyone could hear the numbers being called. I was placed near this cute grandma who could not hear very well so I was constantly tell her which numbers were being called. She gave me a dollar and some mint after so that was pretty cool. The fed us hella good food and even let me take home some because I am a poor college student. One of the best outcomes of the night what they we got free shirts with some cool looking monkeys on them. You all should definitely come out next time!

Past Projects Bingo Night

by Jolene Siu At the event we went to, we helped out at the Yonabaru Chojin Kai Okinawan club’s shinnenkai (new year's party). We facilitated their BINGO game and got to essentially, be a part of their club for one night. There was entertainment and delicious Okinawan food. The entertainment was performed by the members of the club and they danced and sang. For the BINGO game, Mr. Oshiro called out the BINGO letters and our job was to make sure everything ran smoothly and to repeat the numbers called to the elderly if they didn’t hear it. We also yelled out BINGO if someone got BINGO and the facilitator didn’t hear it.
