Past Projects Service Unity Day by Jolie Au For Service Unity Day, Circle K at UH Manoa participated in Operation:Christmas Child. We stuffed 42 shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and ornaments to be sent to children in third world countries as Christmas gifts. We had a great time selecting items to put into our boxes that we thought would make a child's day. The boxes we donated could be a child's very first gift ever so we included handwritten cards and handmade ornaments!

Past Projects Key to College

by Dyson Sato

On November 19th, 2016 we hosted our 2nd annual Key to College event. We invited Key Clubbers from across the island to come and learn about various aspects in college. This year we had members from Kaiser, Roosevelt and Punahou schools. We had talks about the application process & financial aid, life in college, activities & extra-curricular, as well as answered questions that the Key Clubbers had. This was a fun and insightful event, and we hope to be able to host it again next year and have a larger turn out. -3-

Past Projects Holiday Social by Danielle Au

To kick-off the holiday season we held a holiday social to get everyone together before things got hectic. At our social, everyone was welcomed to wear ugly Christmas sweaters, eat delicious snacks, play games, and help put together our wreath that was entered in the Honolulu Hale Wreath Contest. Some of our officers brought homemade cookies that everyone enjoyed. We played games such as Mad Gab, blind drawings, and a venn diagram word game.

Past Projects Okinawan Craft Fair Parking

by Jolie Au It’s that time of the year again for the annual craft fair, hosted by the Young Okinawans of Hawaii! For this two-day event, Circle K at UH MÄ noa assisted the Young Okinawans by directing cars in the designated parking lots towards open spots and the exit. On the second day, we enjoyed some andagi and even got to roam around the craft fair during our break!

Past Projects Paradise Moana Movie Social with Dinner by Jolie Au

On November 29, Circle K at UH MÄ noa participated in the Paradise Moana movie social. Before the movie, we met for dinner at Panda Express. As show time approached, we headed upstairs to the theater, grabbed a few snacks from the concession, and settled into our seats. We had a blast hanging out together and the movie was so good!!

Past Projects Party at the City Lights Social

by Jolie Au

Our club has volunteered at the Honolulu City Lights opening night for a few years now and it has become an annual volunteer night for us. This year, the coordinator of the event invited us to an exclusive soft opening of the tree room in Honolulu Hale (city hall) on the night before the event. We had a Circle K pizza party, took tons of pictures, and even decorated some trees that they had set aside for us. There was so much Christmas spirit with all of the lights, decorations, trees, and wreaths. Earlier that week, we had decorated and submitted a wreath into the annual wreath contest. At our party, we discovered that our wreath, titled “Our Neighbor, the Kiwanis,” had won a Judge’s Choice Award! It was so exciting!!! -7-

Past Projects Party at the City Lights Social by Dyson Sato

The day before the opening of the Honolulu City Lights, we were invited to preview the trees and wreaths that were on display. We went through how the setup would be for opening night, decorated trees with ornaments made by our club, and had dinner. All in all it was a fun night spent with the club!

Past Projects Honolulu City Lights

by Samuel Han

This past month, I've had the wonderful opportunity to work with Sheri Kajiwara for Honolulu City Lights. Mrs. Kajiwara works in customer service for our state government and is in charge of the Honolulu City Lights. Alongside Jolie Au and Marissa Kuo, we planned the event in main hall where all the decorated trees are. Planning consisted of where people needed to stand and when people needed shifts. Ms. Kajiwara was very accommodating and even went and bought us food during the event! During the event, workers were told to help direct traffic flow of the interior hall. With so many beautiful trees, there of course comes traffic. I personally felt exhausted after this event but the Christmas atmosphere was very merry. I look forward to this event next year and who ever has not gone to this event this year should go next year! -9-

Past Projects Young Okinawans of Hawai`i Senior Lunch Set-Up by Danielle Au

Our dedicated members rushed over to the Okinawans Center right helping out at the Honolulu City Lights to help the Young Okinawans of Hawaii to set-up for their Senior Luncheon the next day. We needed to set-up all the tables and chairs in neatly organized row and columns. After, we placed beautiful poinsettias as centerpieces and adorable, hand decorated, individually wrapped mochi at each setting. Even though it was midnight, we were all excited to lend a helping hand no matter what time it is.

Past Projects Honolulu Marathon

by Jolie Au

At 2:30am on Sunday, December 11, our club arrived at the water station in Waikiki for the Honolulu Marathon. Despite the early hour, six of our members set up tables, filled and passed out hundreds of cups of water, and excitedly cheered on the participants of the Honolulu Marathon. Six hours later, the tables were broken down, the cups and trash were bagged, the trucks were loaded and ready to go, and it was time for Circle K to return home for some well-earned rest!

Nikki is an amazing member with a upbeat personality. She attended Service Unity Day, the Holiday Social, and also woke up extremely early for the Honolulu Marathon. For the Service Unity Day project, Nikki donated a lot of presents to be put in the shoeboxes. - 12 -
