PROJECT: Bluff Town Wharf Upgrade CONTRACTOR: Brian Perry Civil CLIENT: South Port NZ VALUE: $9.4m

Undeterred by a cancelled tender process, Brian Perry Civil (BPC) developed a buildable and costeffective new vehicle access and discharge platform for Town Wharf in Bluff.

BPC proposed an innovative solution to South Port, to enable the muchneeded infrastructure upgrades to take place. BPC was engaged in an ECI process and worked alongside the client’s designer, WSP, to develop a buildable design with a suitable lifespan for the new structure.

Commencing onsite in May 2021, three years after initially tendering,

BPC completed the partial demolition of the existing deck and stringers from the old Town Wharf and the driving of 37 new piles, installing the permanent 71 3CONSTRUCTION EXCELLENCE AWARDS 2022 CCNZ / HIREPOOL structure as they went. BPC also completed the second stage of the works, which involved constructing a discharge platform on the end of the permanent access structure. This included a further 16 piles and an in situ concrete deck pour. BPC worked collaboratively with South Port and the design team to complete the project in April 2022 – ahead of programme and under budget.
