HR CORNER Disabilities Pride Month
Disability Pride Month is celebrated in July in the United States, and it is a time to honor the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of the disability community The month coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. Disability Pride Month aims to promote visibility and mainstream awareness of the positive pride felt by people with disabilities, as well as to challenge and change misconceptions and stereotypes. It encourages the celebration of diversity and the acceptance of all people, regardless of their abilities.
This month, lets celebrate the contributions of individuals with disabilities, organizing and promoting events/activities to highlight stories of resilience and innovation among people with disabilities These observances offer a variety of ways to engage our community, promote inclusivity, and raise awareness about important issues By highlighting these themes, we can create an informative and engaging message about Disability Pride for our community residents

CITY HONORS SENIOR SERVICES HERO VOLUNTEERS

The Senior Services Division volunteers prove that not all heroes wear capes. Our selfless heroes assist at the South El Monte Senior Center with an array of services and programming including helping with the lunch program and special events, bingo, teaching yoga and guitar classes, playing beautiful music and providing low-cost haircuts. In appreciation of their dedication to our senior community, the City of South El Monte hosted a recognition dinner on May 29, 2024, with live music and provided them a memento.
