THE CITY OF SOUTH EL MONTE ACQUIRES TESLA VEHICLE FOR SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION
In an effort to enhance mobility for its senior citizens while embracing sustainability, the South El Monte Senior Services and Transportation Division is proud to announce the acquisition of a Tesla Model Y. Funded through Proposition A, this electric vehicle (EV) is being used to transport seniors to medical appointments, grocery stores and other locations providing them with a comfortable and eco-friendly ride.
The division operates a comprehensive Dial-A-Ride transportation program that provides services for individuals 60 and older as well as legally disabled residents of any age. Passengers are transported to any destination within the city limits and up to a 15-mile radius outside of the city limits for medical appointments only. Other services include transportation of youth who participate in the City’s sponsored afterschool and seasonal camp programs.
With the addition of a Tesla Model Y to its fleet, the transportation division aims to provide a reliable, safe, and cost-effective solution for its members. The compact SUV offers ample space for passengers and features advance safety technology that ensures a smooth and secure ride. In addition, by switching to an electric vehicle, the City of South El Monte will save on fuel costs and maintenance, as EVs require fewer repairs compared to traditional gasoline-powered vehicles. The zero-emission vehicle aligns with the City of South El Monte’s commitment to sustainability, reducing its carbon footprint while serving the community.
With this innovative step forward, the City of South El Monte is proving that sustainability and senior care go hand in hand, ensuring that older adults stay mobile, independent, and engaged in their community.
