On August 15th, the City of South El Monte hosted a car parade to promote the 2020 Census and the importance of being counted.

In observance of Labor Day, all City facilities will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2020.

The South El Monte Census Car Caravan embarked at 10 am from City Hall with City leaders, employees and volunteers in 21 decked vehicles and traveled through various neighborhoods in the City with low census completion rates to encourage residents to fill out the 2020 Census. “Every resident’s count matters. The more South El Monte residents are counted in the 2020 Census, equals to an accurate distribution of federal money for schools, medical services, roads and other vital services in our community,” said one City Official.

“Make South El Monte Count, Fill Out the Census Form Today” can be heard from City officials as

they encouraged community members through a microphone during the festive car procession. Parade participants reached out of windows or dashed on to the sidewalk to give residents Census information, cloth face masks with the “Make South El Monte Count 2020 Census” design and hand sanitizers. The fun event brought awareness to our community and reminded them as they are staying safe at home during this pandemic, they can complete their census form via online, phone or mail. It’s simple and it only takes a few minutes to complete. The last day to complete the Census is September 30, 2020, that

includes online, in-person, and phone responses.

The Committee has utilized more social media, the City’s monthly newsletter and other mediums to get the word out on the importance of census participation in South El Monte. As of August 17th, South El Monte’s response rate is 60%.
