LA COUNTY EXTENDS STAY AT HOME ORDER TO MAY 15TH
In order to slow the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), on April 10th, LA County Public Health officials extended the “Stay At Home” Order until May 15th. The Order is subject to extensions, expansions or modifications by the County’s Health Officer, if needed to protect the public’s health. The LA County Department of Public Health’s initial March 16th Order was set to expire on April 19th; however, it was extended to May 15th after a surge in positive COVID-19 cases and unfortunate deaths. LA County and its partners have taken aggressive steps to try to slow the spread of COVID-19, but despite their efforts, there continues to be an increase in community transmission. Without a vaccine or treatment, additional social (physical) distancing measures are necessary to slow the rate of new COVID-19 cases and protect both the public and the healthcare system. The extended Order also includes new social distancing requirements for individuals and businesses, which include: • Essential businesses are required to post, provide employees with, and implement a Social (Physical) Distancing Protocol for each of its facilities that are frequented by the public or employees. Additionally, employers must also provide face coverings to employees. • Continued prohibition of all indoor and outdoor public and private gatherings and events. It also extends the temporary closure of all public beaches, trails, and their points of access within the County of Los Angeles Public Health Jurisdiction. • Individuals must wear face coverings when they go into essential businesses, on buses, trains and in places where they are in contact with other people. The City of South El Monte is in the jurisdiction of LA County and therefore community members are urged to follow the updated Order. Failure to comply is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine and/or jail time. The Order is available on the City’s website.
